automap names for every map we have right now

after like 3 crashes i finally managed to get the patch going. just very unlucky for some reason lol.

also map19 "19: With All Disrespect" fits i must've misstyped it when i was doing the first patch, ah well, sorry to bother HrnekBezucha looks like it did fit without any problem.

also Arsinikk's map "malicious intent" has been named "Malice" it's a shame we are just one character short but they already said they didn't mind it so yeah :D

 

if anyone finds any problems let me know, sorry for the delay.

Ill be sure to update it as the remaining maps show up.

Your map includes features that are incompatible with the Vanilla Doom 2 map format including:

  • Using floor / ceiling flats as wall textures
  • Being able to control how long a door is open. (Doom 2 only has normal doors and fast doors)
  • Three key required doors (This wasn't added until Boom)

I have taken it upon myself, to completely remake your map from scratch in the Doom 2 map format:

 

Asylum-Vanilla.wad

 

I tried to be as faithful as I could, but you used alot of flats as wall textures, which I had to replace with actual wall textures. With the biggest change being that I had to convert your 3 key door into 3 separate doors each requiring a different key.

Weird, I remember I had a Doom 2 (Doom Format) version, I'll search for it and let you know

So i played Map 1 and 2.
Where pretty fun and i don't know how i made it through them, as i am a HMP Player.
So this speaks for them that they are fair haha
Good Design.

I am glad the Archvile was preocupied by resurrecting Demons.

Here is the revision of my map. Thank you to @Luleta and @Arsinikk for the comments. I removed version 1 of the map from the previous post to avoid confusion.

Changes:

  • Blocked monsters from teleporting back to the start after the Yellow Key Door
  • Changed teleport destination for those monsters
  • Moved SSG out of secret
  • Removed 1 rocket to make room for new teleport destination
  • Tweaked thing placement
  • Tweaked monster difficulty flags
  • Replaced some textures
  • Added non-stock music

Level 03 isn't there i guess.
Level 04 needs to be fixed with Difficulties, there were nearly no Monsters :D
Will replay it later on a higher Difficulty.
Level 05 was Fun and nicely designed, has a nice og Doom touch.

Level 06 was also very fun, felt also very og Doomy and is imo the best Level so far.

Level 07 nearly no Monsters... i have to play on a higher Difficulty haha

Level 08 My own one, seems i am introducing the Plasma

Level 09 Also really nice designed.

I see that we'll ending up having a Mix of classic Doom 1 Levels and stranger Levels of Doom 2.

Level 10 That escaleted quickly^^ Not my Type of Game^^

Level 11 aah berserking a Archvile :D

Level 12 isn't there

Level 13 Nice how the Level opens up, clever Design. Like it :)

Ah, yes, read that it was remade and a beta... Was too short on Time to reread who :D

Than i would recommend giving another Week, if they do not even respond, we should give the Spots free.

I've had some work going on a map, but I confess, the lack of deadline has made this low priority. I can try to put more focus on getting the WIP finished, but a deadline of some sort from @Frost-Core would be helpful for that to aid in structuring my time.

whatever happened to @Frost-Core? hasn't commented on this thread at all despite the mentions and i see they're still  active on the forums.

maybe they're no longer interested in the project?

if so, what shall we do?

Worst case scenario, maybe @Luleta and I could take over as substitute project leaders. I feel we need someone who can a bit stricter with deadlines and the like.

 

I definitely don't want this project to stay hanging with how close it is to being finished. 

 

(Although we would still have no way to update the main thread without Frostcore)

if frost doesn't want to keep leading this project maybe a forum mod can modify the thread so that we can edit it, im not sure tho.

and this is all speculation considering forst hasn't confirmed he is not interested yet.

oh, id have absolutely no problem with taking over, but i feel like i should get frost core to confirm he is not interested.

 

and also honestly i kinda wish he didnt take two slots. kinda wish map7 took advantage of what map7 could be instead of being a linear corridor but my critiques were simply ignored :P

 

i already did a dehacked with the automap names and Arsinikk even tweaked a map so it qualifies with the vanilla format. frost still didnt say anything about it.

 

still, im not too familiar with community projects so im not gonna pretend i know what to do in this situation. i already mentioned the mappers that didnt send a map yet, despite not being the project lead 7_7

 

for the record if frost core is reading this, its ok if he is not interested, i just wish he communicated with us, he doesnt seem busy since he is still active on the forums and even started another community project...

I agree with @Luleta, while @Frost-Core has been a bit absent from the thread overall, he is the one who pitched the original CP and originally started it. And so I feel that it is he, who should be the one to confirm the status of this CP and let us know if he is still interested in the project.

 

However, if he still does not respond in a substantial amount of time, I do think that we should continue forward without him - while still crediting him as the original project leader.

I can understand what you are feeling @Luleta... Frostcore's maps, without a doubt feel like a mapper's first Doom maps. I'm honestly a bit torn, since I want to encourage new mappers to continue mapping and some of the first doom maps have their charm... But it is clear that the maps he submitted are a bit amatuer in quality, compared to many of the other maps. As for the map07 slot, it was a strange decision to block off that slot. Personally, I kinda find the usual map07 formula to be a bit boring, but a mapper could have easily used this slot to try to do something creative with the mechanic.

 

To break it down, this is what many of us have done:

  • So far, Frostcore has been the project lead. He has also provided an M_DOOM and TITLEPIC. And obviously has contributed 2 maps.
  • Luleta has done an amazing job with the Dehacked for map names. They have also done a great job with some of the map feedback and testing if maps work correctly in Vanilla/Chocolate Doom (complevel).
  • I hate to toot my own horn, but I've created the CWILV mapname graphics (with map author names) and added a temp INTERPIC. I've also tried my hardest to give critical feedback to each map, to help better the maps in the project. Also I did convert (or remade from scratch) Memeboi's map to be Vanilla compat.
  • Everyone who's submitted a map has done a great job! Especially those who have commented when they've made updates to their map!

 

I think it's clear that some of the CP's participants (like me, Luleta, Codename_Delta, Azuris, just to name a few), seem to be more invested in the project than the project lead themself.

It could be that Frostcore is just busy, but like Luleta said, I wish he'd just communicate with us more.

@Arsinikk I see there a lot of missing slots from participants too, if they didn't make in time i can make more maps if you guys need it c:

 

Also we can transform this on sort of a developement thread and when the project is ready, we can make a new thread to release it, since it is not possible to edit frostcore thread.

If something, i can make a couple maps to fill in the blanks too (the hardest oart would be to restrain myself from making them ballbusters <_<)

We should set a deadline for Frostcore to get back to us, and if we get no response before then, we can move forward with advancing the project. (The irony of setting a deadline for someone who removed the deadline is not lost on me :P)

I appreciate your enthusiasm, although I think we should try to stick to the "2 maps per author" rule. However, if we really couldn't find anyone else, we wouldn't hesitate to ask for another one of your contributions :)

Honestly if we end up doing a dev thread, it should probably be a brand new one so that we can customise the title and mention that we are looking for people to fill more map slots.

 

If we start a new thread, the first thing we should do is do a post asking all the mappers who still haven't provided a map, if they are still interested. If they aren't interested or if they do not respond in a time limit that we set, we can then free up those mapslots and then create a new deadline for the rest of the maps to be finished.

 

P.S. I have a friend who'd like to do a map if a mapslot is freed. I'd rather have new mappers contribute to the freed mapslots, rather than authors who have already submitted maps (but you know if we don't find anybody, we can start doing that as well)

I was just about to suggest the same, as i gave a unofficial deadline of two weeks to others, we could give the same to him, maybe a few days more.

 

To keep this here as a dev channel is also a good idea.

This keeps the release thread cleaner.

 

I replayed Map 7, now on Nightmare, even with more monsters in it, it could really need some rework to make it more diverse.

The design itself is a bit maze like and it could make it feel bigger as it is.

With some lower level magic you could bring up new ways without wasting to many lines and also confuse players.

 

There were some pretty nice Maps until now, would be a shame not to release the project.

 

But in the current state and as how people are commenting, i see this baby coming through :)

I was Inactive all of yesterday, for reasons I dont wanna disclose as it might risk me getting angry.
