What is the most memorable midi you've ever heard in a doom map?

Notice the US Marines hymn from 0:40 to 0:45 until it just dies down.

That's the best part, especially the incredibly anticlimactic, absurd chord it ends on.

This one.

From this wad, there's nothing in my brain, but this song. Not a single encounter, not a single other song. Just. THIS.

Too many for me to name, but one of my favorites from the first game would have to be E1M9's track, "Hiding the Secrets".

^ Agreed with that. Blissful midi.

Just remembered MAP24 of Scythe. Yes, Smells like Burning Corpse is used elsewhere, but, honestly, I cannot name a map that literally feels like the MIDI playing in the background as well as this one. It's just a perfect fit for something that wasn't written for the map in question.

Mine is definitely esselfortium's "Ether" from BTSX Episode 2 map 20 : 'Speedtraps for the bee kingdom'. It's ... just a mood honestly

I think mine are Jimmy's "Astral Dreadnought" from Plutonia 2 (I was pleased to see this one getting a fair number of mentions earlier in the thread too), and esselfortium's "Mystproj" from BTSX 2.

plutonia midi pack, map 31. zero master's dance with the cyberdemons on Nightmare with that song going in the background was surreal

Hell Revealed 2 had some real bangers, especially MAP15, MAP23, MAP24.and MAP29.

2002ado had some classics too. E1M8, E3M1, E3M7 and E3M8 we're all great.

Part of the reason Big Ol' Billy was one of the winners of my 20 year mapping contest is because I've had his MIDI playing in my mind here and there over the last few months since I first played the map. It is SO catchy!

ignoring how divisive it is, i'd have to go with lajksgas7 from map29 of slaughterfest 2012. whether or not you like it doesn't matter - it's a midi that's pretty hard to forget once you've heard it

that being said, i think it's pretty good in its own weird way :p

I'll add a few more runners up:

-BTSX e1 Map01

-'Day of mourning' in JPCP map28 (fits better than the actual map it was made for)

- Sunlust map21

- Hexasketch (will be cool no matter the map)

Probably the one used on "Gate to Limbo"

Then "The Gauntlet"

Then "Icon of Sin theme"

I haven't played the classics and custom wads for a long time, memory is not that great lol

There's too many to list but two I always enjoyed were @stewboy's "Core" from Valiant and Speed of Doom and "Flee" from Ancient Aliens.

A few of them.

"Disposition" by Mark Klem (it just has that groove to it)

"Inhabitants" by AD_79

"mystproj" by esselfortium

"Weather Warning" by Jimmy (had to be, its map is ridiculously long!)

"Grove" by BPRD

"Birdsong" by Stewboy

Seconding this one, funny part is I think it fits the JPCP map better than the one it was made for.

I'd like to add Scythe Map29 which has a MIDI version of a symphony X song "Lady of the snow". For years I had no idea where the track came from but it always stuck in my memory as being very good.

BTSX’s Map 07 and Penultimate map had some rocking and oppressive midis while one was fighting for their life in the wad. Say what you want about the wad, but you can’t deny the music meshed with those maps really made things fitting.

Doom 2 Map 01 Entryway, the amount of times I have played it just because of mods has gotten it stuck in my head, also, its not a bad one either.
