Miyoo Mini V2: Can you run user made Wads on the Doom source port on it?

Recommended Posts

I am glad you explained what this device is!

Specs:

Spoiler
  • Powerful ARM Cortex A7 dual core processor @1.2GHz
  • Crystal clear 2.8” IPS display @ 640×480 resolution
  • 128MB RAM & 32GB storage – Up to 128GB Micro SD card
  • 1900mAh rechargeable battery, 4-5 hours based on usage
  • RetroArch supporting over a dozen retro games consoles

Since this isn't an Anbernic and has significant less RAM, there is a different firmware for it - OnionOS. There are Doom and Doom 2 ports) available through OnionOS's Ports Collection.

There is also Retroarch, so you have access to Libretro-PrBoom (PrBoom 2.5.0 based core) which may or may not support more than the OnionOS ports. Atleast that has full Boom compatibilty.

How to set up Doom/Doom 2 on OnionOS:

Based on a 5 minute search OnionOS seems the best bet.

Source ports all support user WADs, though how you run them varies from port to port.

This assumes, of course, you have the full versions of the game. If you have a shareware version, they will not run user WADs.

Thanks but do you know if I can run user made wads on it?

PrBoom does through Libretro, the OnionOS ports i am not sure.

The questions you ask can easily be answered yourself by the way. As the Miyoo runs Retroarch, there is Libretro PrBoom in this case available - Henceforth the links.

Create a folder and put one iwad in it.
And put the pwads that match the iwad.
After running the core, browse to the folder and run pwad.
Alternatively, you can select pwad and select a core from Load Archive.
Don't run huge maps or maps with lots of monsters.
(This is advice for the health of Miyoo Mini v2)
