As soon as I thought about the idea I wanted to portray, I went for it and tried my best, but uhm... it ended up not being that interesting?? I am still quite proud of it, and it's kinda funny though, hope you enjoy it IDK

I made a little something for this.

Map Name: Skulls 'n' Blades

Music: "Tower of Souls" from ActRaiser 2 (MIDI sequenced by aero on vgmusic.com)
Sky: N/A
Format: Boom
Difficulty Settings: nope
Gimmicks Used: 13 monsters, crushers (also unintentionally no hitscan)
Build Time: ~57 minutes

Comments: Had some free time, so I thought why not. A simple arena-style map contained within a single
circular contraption with Arachnotrons, Revenants, a Cyberdemon and a series of crushers meant to simulate
huge-ass guillotine blades.

Map Name: woooo weee i feel just like buddy holly

Gimmicks Used: Hellish setting (Kind of?), Map inspired by music collection (more my experience with the song), something doomcute (i added computers and chairs in an area) and ship (it's tucked away in a corner idk why i added it)

Build Time: 1 and a half hours then like 4 days later i added the custom sky and midi

Comments: this map is trash and also my first map for PUSS.

Eyyy thanks! Yeah I wanted to have a weird museum vibe, where you examine the different monsters and such. I couldn't evolve the idea much, but at least I executed the overall idea in an hour! I'm glad you like it ^^

First time joining in on PUSS, probably should join in more often as speedmaps help me get some ideas out of limbo.

Map Name: Lost substation
Author: DFF

Music: Blood shareware CD track (Blood 5)

Sky: One from Mechadon's box 'o skies (included)

Format: Boom

Difficulty Settings: N/A
Gimmicks Used:
-Skulltiverse Portal
-13 Monsters
-map based on musical selection (kinda, i usually pick a fitting track before i map and work around that)

Build Time: 1 Hour (likely a couple minutes over)

Comments: Perhaps something more fitting for October's PUSS but the idea came to me looking at the grittier texture pack, plus i liked the idea of maps where power affected the map.
Also i modified the texture pack to include my sky as i was getting TextureX errors on launch, not entirely sure how to fix this at the moment. Included is the texture pack since im not knowledgeable enough to make it cleaner right now

Usually I find PUSS' themes a bit too 'happy' for my taste but hey, this one is a free for all; and, now that ASS is gone, got to find something to fill the hole with (all puns intended). Remember to load the respack!

 


Map Name: L'Abito della Sposa

Music: 'Not Tomorrow' by Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill)

Sky: the given respack

Format: Boom

Difficulty Settings: Not implemented, and essentially meaningless
Gimmicks Used: A house with multiple points of entry / 13 monsters / a bunch of crushers / no hitscan map are the obvious ones. Fight your way out of the inside of a monster / amusement park setting / musical mapping might apply according to one's imagination

Build Time: 1 hour for building and a few extra mins for decoration (got a phone call during my hour so felt justified)

Comments:  An anti-war map, just like the song it takes its name from.

Map Name: What Ancient Aliens does to a MF

Music: Kaitou from Tifa Tan X

Sky: Some 1994 wad (0MSHIP?)

Difficulty Settings: Only on one item

Gimmicks Used:

  • No hitscan
  • 6 secrets
  • Something inspired by a previous map (Puss 4 starting room that lowers and reveals the map)
  • Doomcute (?) (it's in one of the secrets)

Build Time: 1 hour plus few more minutes for final fixes and adding sky + music, all divided in two days.

Comments: Woah! Last night Darth Vader from planet Plutonia come into my house and told me to make this map, or he will fry my brain!

A Bone Closet in a Trick Door

Maze with a silent teleport at each end (PAC-MAN DOOM)

City Full of Zombies (kiinnda... that one sorta slipped away but still works)

Build Time: 1 hour and 3 mins + half an hour for texture polish (because it was basically untextured.)

Comments: I wanted to make things go boom, and also have some cool but weird escape routes, so good luck

How exciting to see that we've already made it to 27 maps! Just a reminder we have a little under a week left to submit a map, and @BluePineapple72 has already begun the process of compiling our submissions and adding in our custom graphics. HELL YEAH!

A friendly reminder, as well, that there is NO LIMIT to how many maps you make, so long as they fit the rules. Party on!

Speaking of compiling, here is the pre release!

Some skies are bugged at the moment so I'll have to go thorugh and make sure everything is named correctly (just lemme know what skies you need if it is messed up)

 

Also for you two, @memeboi and @CyberosLeopard, the songs you included with your wads are incompatible with boom. The first is a .wav file and the latter is a .mp3. I noticed that the latter song technically is a midi, but I couldn't find a download link for a .midi file for the map. Just lemme know if you two can find one for your maps.

 

ALSO, more importantly, there is only one week left for submissions! So get your shoes and socks on people!

 

Bug fixes and updates will follow the same general "one week after I finish playtesting" thing we do, but considering the scope of the project I doubt any maps will need any updates/changes. Only if things are broken.

 

One last thing, expect a playthrough video to be uploaded within the next few hours.

Sorry about that Blue. When I first found Demon Dance, it was by fumbling around Dial-up for Murder's midi collections. The 'MIDI Nightmares', from where Demon Dance is from, said that one can download the midis along with whatever format one selects for the download. Either way, I've added it to the .zip file ;) (On a side note, I feel that I should state that the track sounds 'off' when played-back via TiMidity++, so I don't know what it will be like in PrBoom+. Oh well).

I've textured everything that needed it, I've fixed one bug regarding a door, and I did add two steps to a staircase (sorry, but it did make texturing it easier). I've also noticed a bug regarding a switch texture not changing, but I don't feel it's too important.

Comments: this has to be the dumbest map i've ever made, but i like it. basically the e3l10 layout from Wolfenstein 3D copied onto doom with a twist :^)

Comments: Accidentally taking the wrong turn, our protagonist enters a hellish cavernous rocky location, surrounded by imps.
