leejacksonaudio Posted September 8, 2022 Queen Elizabeth II has died. Prince Charles has succeeded her upon her death and will be known as King Charles III. 27 Share this post Link to post
Skeletonpatch Posted September 8, 2022 When my phone vibrated this morning I was not expecting that news headline. Had I been with anyone else they probably would have been confused by me suddenly giving a salute out of nowhere. 0 Share this post Link to post
Wyrmwood Posted September 8, 2022 I'm British so I probably should be a little upset, but somehow I was saddened more at the the loss of Tom Petty or David Bowie. Maybe it's because I'm living overseas right now but I kinda shrugged at the news. 1 Share this post Link to post
DannyMan Posted September 8, 2022 I first got wind of this during school, rather unfortunate news. 0 Share this post Link to post
Foodles Posted September 8, 2022 (edited) Sad to hear this, she was a constant presence in the lives of not just the British but the various countries around the world for which she was still head of state. Whatever your thoughts on the monarchy I think we can agree that she had a strong sense of duty and acted with a dignity and stoicism that was reassuring and a positive example to us all throughout her long reign. It can't have been easy for her losing her life-long partner Phillip and I do think that's what set her on the decline. Despite that and the fact that she was 96 years old it's still a shock and will be saddening for many of us. 3 Share this post Link to post
Jello Posted September 8, 2022 She always seemed like an alright person. And my opinion as an American really doesn't matter, but I would rather have her as the Monarch than Charles. I've never cared for him, he seems like a dim-witted bag of French wash, and I've always had a suspicion that Elizabeth was just holding onto the throne because she didn't want him to be King; she'd rather have it pass directly to William. But she still seems like she was a very able Monarch, and tried to stay in tune with her subjects, (although calling people subjects really makes me cringe). Honestly she reminds me of my Grandma, who just celebrated her 90th birthday. She's loveable and loving, affable, jovial, but she will let you know if and when you cross a line. And you'll never hear the end of it if you do. So it's sad to see Elizabeth go, just because she seemed like a halfway decent Monarch, who knew that she needed to step back and let the British Parliament run the country, for better or worse. 1 Share this post Link to post
Herr Dethnout Posted September 8, 2022 (edited) As a fun fact: just few hours before the annoucement, Sans won a tournament to be the King of "Turmblr Sexy Man" Also, Latin American twitter now crowns Chabelo (a Mexican comedian that has a meme about his age) as the winner of the enternity contest... Interesing timeline we living 2 Share this post Link to post
Chezza Posted September 8, 2022 (edited) I know this is going to sound cold, but the worse thing about this is how I'm going to be surrounded by 2 months worth of news stories, articles, office talk based on the Queen's passing, followed by the funeral, stories of the family, speculations and talks about Australia's attempts on becoming a republic blah blah. Hopefully we get a public holiday though. RIP. 4 Share this post Link to post

I concur. She is one of the few, possibly only, leaders of modern times that i had any real respect for. And yes, Charles doesn't inspire me at all. 1 Share this post Link to post
Redneckerz Posted September 8, 2022 I mean, shit. With family living in the UK, this does hit a bit home. 15 prime ministers on and 70 years on the throne and her policy of nevertell made her some what of an institute. The only other comparison i can make is of Rama IX, who also spent decades on the throne and was loved by many. When you say essential pillar, well Queen E wasn't just one, she wrote the definition on it, too. We now live in a different timeline. Have far less onlook on Charles though. But he will probably modernize the monarchy there. 1 Share this post Link to post

DJVCardMaster Posted September 8, 2022 The "Queen" of my country almost got shot dead last thursday, and we had an obligatory national holiday. Round of applause for the UK, where it's not mandatory to miss out work because of that, and people can work freely as always. I'm from Argentina for those who ask. 3 Share this post Link to post
Gregor Posted September 8, 2022 I'm German, so i really shouldn't be bothered, but still felt the weight of these news. It's an historic moment as she might very well be the last great monarch in human history to die. As far as i can tell she was a loyal servant to her country and its people. Rest in peace. 1 Share this post Link to post

We are poor but atleast we live in an interesting Netflix series. 5 Share this post Link to post

leejacksonaudio Posted September 8, 2022 (edited) King Charles III, the new monarch. Gaze upon his royal visage and despair. EDIT: Makes you wonder if he tied his tie in a Windsor knot. Edited September 8, 2022 by leejacksonaudio 10 Share this post Link to post
Stupid Bunny Posted September 8, 2022 Fun fact: she was crowned just 3 months after Stalin died. Not sure why but that really puts the length of her reign in perspective. Wonder what the future of the Commonwealth is with her gone. 3 Share this post Link to post

wallabra Posted September 9, 2022 (edited) It is always a bitter moment when we witness such a person of regard pass away. I bid a minute of silence and the minimum of respect for Queen Elizabeth. I want to say, though. There are many reasons the majority of the world outside Britain lowkey cheers her passing. Even though her powers were on paper next to none due to the nature of British constitutional monarchy, she is an unapologetic symbol of a colonial and imperial power, mother of multiple paedophiles; being a symbol she has great influence on society, often of the kinds that are unhelpful to progressive strides, all while she and the royal family only but suck up public money. It can be argued that she had no choice in being born into the royal family, and that she was necessarily indoctrinated by that family to love the monarchy and the nation; but that does not really diminish the practical effects of her reign, as powerless politically as it may have been. That said, there are certainly far worse figures in British history to be unhappy about. In particular Winston Churchill, who is known for his heavy-handed approach to British rule in India and elsewhere, including basically genocides. He was absolutely a very right-wing leader, perhaps far-right, even, although his role in defeating the Nazis in WW2 is appreciated. Either way, that is a lot of negativity in a small lot, and I'm gonna wrap it up there. As I said, this event remains one for mourning, even if out of nothing but basic respect and civilization. May Lizzie rest in peace, and here is hope for a better, freer world tomorrow. 10 Share this post Link to post

Solmyr Posted September 9, 2022 So, are they going to change the anthem from "God save the queen" to "God save us from the king"? 2 hours ago, DJVCardMaster said: https://metro.co.uk/2022/09/08/argentinian-tv-host-santiago-cuneo-sparks-disgust-after-insulting-queen-17331864/?ito=socialmetrouktwitter Ok, this went too far Oh i know this guy he's like an Argentinian Alex Jones or "Argento Jones" lol.
