one way doors

new doom 2 wod I am making called one way doors I am new to building maps and locking for feed back on the first 4 maps I have ever made learning as I go 

and a 5 map partly finished   and am going to try to make a 32 map wod

locking fared to hear back any feed back

im a good guy so here's the info

  • IWAD: Doom2
  • Port: compatible with Most port
  • New asset: N/A
  • BUG: bunch of missing texture, need cheat to progress in some part

im not sorry for using IDDQD

 

GOOD: some fight are pretty good

BAD: square architecture, odd circle room, miss-align texture

UGLY: Bunch of missing texture, some door is literally one way ok that's the title, inescapable pit

 

Sentence: Please don't make a 32 map

Hey, I would  like to advise against going for megawad. I'll try to get a recording done, when I get back, but in the meanwhile, please remember the following.

 

1) First maps take a long time to develop. So please, make sure that you take your time.

2) Custom textures need to be included in the .wad file.

Use your feedback to make changes like a telleport out of the pit

i have made sum changes to the first map that that is a teleporters in the pit if you fall of and I have made sum changes to the second map as wall 

 

and still learning as I go and am still locking for feed back

There is a problem with missing textures when I use Crispy-Doom using DOOM2.WAD with one way doors1.wad. I can fix the texture problem for you if you request.

The maps themselves are not bad at all. They definitely have all the signs of a first mapping effort,
as if the maps were made in great haste, not caring about texture alignment issues. With a bit a bit

of detailing and careful selection of textures these maps could be presentable.

 

The ideas of some of the constructs are quite good, but, too many monsters in small spaces without

a spot to hide are very annoying.

It seems to me that you used an external texture pack trying to enhance the look of some linedefs,

floors, ceilings. If that is the case then you have to let us know which one it is, else the missing textures

issue will persist.

 

Inspecting the maps in an editor without the external textures will show you which textures are missing.

I figured out why there are missing textures in one way doors1.wad. mattjonh is using flat textures for wall textures, and wall textures as flat textures in the maps.

There are more problems to the map than missing textures. I noticed sectors are being built into other sectors, and sorting out the sector layout will take a long time. After separating the sectors, I would have to assign a TAG # to each sector. After assigning tag numbers to the sectors, and linedefs, I would need to program the sector events. I would fix the maps for you, but I am under the impression the project will take several hours. Let me know if you interested in letting me to proceed with the map adjustments.

Are you talking about me or someone else? mattjohn is new to building DOOM maps, and you will need to learn as you go. There is no way anyone will know how to use the DOOM Engine effectively in a short amount of time. Building real DOOM maps will take a long time, and the longer, the better.
