A Restriction-Themed Mapsets / Maps List (Better organized now, plus a WIP Excel doc!)

I am a HUGE fan of mapsets / community projects that are made under major restrictions. I believe our community's creativity best shines when there are mapping restrictions applied - it really makes you think outside the box.

 

Some of the more common restrictions include, (but are not limited to) map size, file size, sector amount, linedef amount, limitation of texture usage, number of monsters, limitation on variety of monsters, and thing amount - although I'm sure there are a lot more possible that we haven't seen yet.

 

I am excluding packs such as community projects that only require you to use a certain texture / resources pack, as that would bloat this list by a massive size. I am also not including mapsets like 1994 Tune-Up Community Project, or the Doom - The Way id Did series - as there are no concrete restrictions here other than 'improve 1994 maps' - and 'make a level in the fashion id would'. I don't consider these strict restrictions, unlike the examples I provided above.

 

My goal of this thread is to accumulate as many examples of restriction-themed mapsets that I can. I do this in the hope that it'll be easier for future users to find mapsets of this nature - without having to needle-and-haystack the entire Doomworld website / archives.

 

I don't doubt there are some recent projects I am unaware of.

 

Any other mapset suggestions that I am missing would be greatly appreciated!

 

Speedmap sets are NOT to be included, unless there is an additional restriction being applied.

Are speedmaps considered? If so, you can add anything that has been created with a time limit, such as the ASS, the Scythe series, Speed of Doom, and a lot of speedmapping series.

Hmmm, speedmaps will not be included, unless there is an additional restriction being applied.

ASS includes maps that had to adhere to at least one theme out of two (sometimes three or four). Sometimes it was a visual or gameplay theme (e.g. "train map", "sectors in specific shapes" or "usage of silent teleports"), not sure if those counts as restrictions described in OP, but there are sessions that enforced strict limitations like ASS67 that included "1024x1024 player space", "10 sectors or less" and "100 lines or less" as themes.

Thanks for making me aware of this. I'll have to at some point go through all the readmes, and find the ones that have restrictions other than just the 'time to make the WAD'.
