The Unity Port Thread - PS/Xbox/Switch/IOS/Android

I had a very similar issue some time ago. Turns out in my Windows installation, the games and WADs were saved to the root directory of one of my drives (e.g. "F:\Saved Games\id Software"). Seems like the rereleases save their data in very random locations for some reason.

DoomWiki did state that there are at least two possible locations for WADs to be saved when referring to the Unity rereleases, but I guess either the rereleases chose OneDrive or OneDrive chose the rereleases' Saved Games folder to go there. I made sure to pin the IdSoftware folder to Quick Access so I wouldn't forget it, though. But I did figure out that the Revolution addon is in there as WAD #14, and renaming it to TVR.wad will allow DoomLauncher to update the metadata properly.

There's an inconsistency a GOG user pointed out on the GOG Doom series forums in the Unity port between the Steam an GOG versions: the Steam version can input classic cheats (e.g. IDKFA for all weapons and keys, IDDQD for God Mode) just fine via keyboard, but typing these cheat codes in the GOG version don't work at all for some reason. I tested both versions and I can confirm that classic cheats via keyboard don't work in the latter (I tried typing "IDFA" during gameplay as much as possible, nothing happens).

If new secrets were added, I'm surprised Map05 was kept as-is and not given a proper fourth secret. I also saw that Map33 was acknowledged in the DMAPINFO lump, but commented out.

Quote

// "MAP33" BONUS map: RevoltloveR
// Map33 can only be reached with the cheat code IDCLEV33 while in game.
// It is technically impossible to properly exit this level.
// So player is forced to die instead.

MAP33 ended up crashing the engine and had to be cut, thought it would handle any lump names but apparently not!

I've passed this on to the team handling the GOG launch, but don't know if this was intentional or not. Thanks for the report!

yeah it was in the works for a while. i'm guessing that the large amount of musicians in the MIDI Pack might've had something to do with it; we all had to fill out forms to license our music for the addon. a few musicians were absent too, which probably didn't help, and would probably be why some of the tracks were replaced entirely (with the exception of map04 - as pointed out, that was a remix i made of a theme from Shadow The Hedgehog. i quickly realised that this wouldn't be able to be used in the addon, and i sent in a original replacement i had at hand).

I've looked over the add-on release of Revolution! and found some changes.

  • Demos added. Original WAD had none.
  • TITLEPIC, CREDITS, INTERPIC, and BOSSBACK graphics redone. Originals on top (including CREDITS from the Revolution! MIDI Pack for additional comparison), Bethesdas on bottom:
      Reveal hidden contents

    MClA6XA.png

    Oddly, Doomguy's God-face above is no longer bloody in the Bethesda version!

  • New HELP graphic that has no original equivalent.
    sQpfL1w.png

  • Map edits:
    MAP01
    - One secret removed. The green armor secret in the original could not be tagged because the player can't actually stand within the sector marked as a secret. In the Bethesda version, this sector is no longer marked as a secret, hence it's possible to acquire all secrets now.

    MAP21
    - New secret room added that contains one health bonus. The floor initially says 2001 and then changes to 2021 when approached.
      Reveal hidden contents

    uVwXqqf.png

    MAP22
    - New Berserk secret added to starting structure. Original on top, Bethesda on bottom:
      Reveal hidden contents

    unIXeSe.png

    - Two health bonuses added on the small teleporters that lead to and from the starting structure.

    MAP30
    - One secret added. Southwest pillar of the opening teleporter can be lowered to reveal an armor bonus. Original on top, Bethesda on bottom:
      Reveal hidden contents

    TzaKDso.png

This release includes the content from the Revolution! MIDI Pack merged in, but it has some changes as well.

  • Notably does not include the modified CWILV22 graphic which corrects the spelling of "Pyramide" to "Pyramid". However, this spelling correction was performed in the new DMAPINFO lump, so it's at least right in the automap.
  • Title screen, intermission screen, MAP04, and MAP12 music tracks completely replaced.
  • MAP03 music track updated. It's the same composition, but has slightly altered instrumentation/volume?
  • Wording in the text screens has been altered. All references to the demons becoming slaves have been removed. Original wording on left, Bethesda wording on right:
    - SLAVES => MINDLESS WORKERS
    - SLAVE-WORKERS => CHEAP LABOR
    - BE ENSLAVED => FOLLOW

  • A few other trivial grammar changes in the text:
    - A DEVICE BUILD BY THE ANCIENT GOD => A DEVICE BUILT BY THE ANCIENT GOD
    - YOU ARE DRAGGED INTO THE REALM OF CHAOS. => YOU ARE DRAGGED INTO THE REALM OF CHAOS!
    - WITHOUT CHAOS THERE WILL BE HARMONY. => WITHOUT CHAOS, THERE WILL BE HARMONY.

  • Custom text screens leading to the secret levels have been omitted, although they didn't have much unique to say. The original Doom 2 secret level text is used now.

  • MAP33 edit
    - Exit modified. The original version had a working exit switch in front of a swastika, but pressing this would crash the game when the next level tried to load. The new version has a fake door with a teleporter line in front of it that forces you to telefrag a voodoo doll, making it impossible to exit the level. Original on top, Bethesda on bottom:
      Reveal hidden contents

    0e168Xh.png

Additional trivia: The WAD is internally designated as "14", which chronologically places it before Arrival (15) and Anomaly Report (16) despite being released after. This suggests the add-on was in limbo for a while, maybe a whole year given the secret "2021" message.

Thank you for these breakdowns. Made an account just to thank you! I kinda like the Bethesda version more. Haven't played Revolution at all, think I might give it a spin with their WAD

I imagine they swapped out Map12’s  and the title screen’s respective MIDIs because the original were a collaboration between Jimmy and @Wereknight. He must’ve been unavailable to sign a contract or something.

It’s really cool this has been added and the MIDI pack is an added bonus. Congratulations to all involved! I need to finish Anomaly Report so I can tackle this one.

Wereknight were contacted at the same time as everyone else was, but they either didn't want to or couldn't license their music. Jimmy would probably know more about it, he was the figurehead for this addon and the one who contacted all the musicians in the first place.

Hi all, long time lurker/shy poster here. Thanks so much for all these updates. Really enjoying Revolution! so far, the new MIDIs are fantastic. Also really appreciate the convenience of loading up Doom on my Playstation 😄

Summary of changes

This is great news, i had never expected that the Revolution would be added to the official port.  The Revolution is one of my favorite wads, I always play through it when testing a new source port.

This may be one of the oldest pwads added so far (if we exclude official ones), I wonder if some other stuff from the early 2000s will be added. The DTWID duo-logy would be amazing.

With the unfortunate and untimely passing of Megalyth earlier this year, bith DTWIDs can’t be added anymore.

Also, the breakdowns for Sigil and Arrival are on the page prior to this one.

Shame to hear of his passing.

At any rate, it's nice to see an older .wad dropped in among the typically much more recent ones. Hope they source up at least one or two more oldies just for variety, there oughta be at least a couple of viable candidates.

What are some nice vanilla .wads from an older period, and which has available authors and doesn't use too much 'borrowed' content to replace?

Sprinkling in a couple of golden oldies for the more curated console experience would help illustrate Doom's incredibly lengthy legacy to some younger demographics.

Demonfear’s been thrown around a lot as a possible addition - Top 100 Wad, Capellan’s still active, and no new assets to speak of. Chris Hansen has quite a few wads to his name too dating back that far.

Why's the Epic Store versions of Doom I Enhanced and Doom II Enhanced using the outdated screenshots of the port with the "trial version" text plastered on the lower right? And on a (nit-picky) subject of advertising, how is it that Doom II on Steam hasn't had its web assets updated like Doom I and 3: BFG Edition (now resembling the 2019 version as simply Doom 3) did?

Those are the same screenshots used everywhere besides Steam and GOG. As far as I'm aware, the Nintendo eShop and the Xbox Marketplace both show exactly the same gallery.

Oh wow, that is very unexpected! I'm still doing my run of Anomaly Report on the Nintendo Switch. I'm on MAP20 right now. Does this version of Revolution! have new music?

Looks like it comes with the midi pack, according to what @Revenant100 mentioned above.

Since steam added support for Joy Cons I'm hoping gyro aiming can be enabled on the PC version at some point for those that want to use it.

Gyro aim works natively on PC but only with DualShock 4. It's just what Rewired supports.

Should be able to setup gyro for other controllers through the Steam input overlay though.

Ah I see. I'll look into that when I get the chance.

I noticed the wiki page says a bunch of existing addons were modified the same day Revolution was added. Does anyone know what the differences might be? I know @Doomkid has some prior versions on Doomshack, but I don't know if it's all of them.
