Share whatever headcanon you have relating to classic Doom (And also Hexen n' Heretic, why not)
 

• Hellgrowth is some kind of distributed intelligence that the demons use for various reasons (Upper echelons use it as some sort of war computer, lower castes use it as pinky food) which is why they let it spread uncontained.
• Pinkies are the lowest tier (Besides lost souls and possessed humans) in the hell hierarchy, serving as food and beasts of burden.
• Part of me also wants to say that hellgrowth is what drives demonic forges (Where arachnos and the like get their cybernetics) by crushing metal into appropriate shapes by lifting up large stone blocks.
• Hell has some equivalent to modern fighters cause cacos don't really cut it, maybe some sort of giant bat.

It's probably because I heard someone vaguely allude to this, I don't even remember who said this or where, but this idea still lives in my head:

 

Doomguy has gone thru the events of every megawad and mod campaign in a near endless and consecutive campaign of demon bloodshed coming to a head in Doom 4 and Doom Eternal

 

Any readme or intermission screen that contradicts this is just the writers lying (unless the player graphics are distinct enough from vanilla John Taggart to be considered a different character e.g. batman.wad or rowdy rudy)

Hell in Doom is not actually Hell, but more like a planet with similar appearance, so the monsters are actually Aliens than a Demons from hell.

for centuries, the imps have held annual celebrations of the pinkie, featuring pinkie-related activities and stories of the pinkie's might told in impish passed down year after year. one could say they are a creature of noble status to those "in the know", yet to some, the pinkie is merely seen as a disposable flesh heap. about 50% of barons and hell knights have since taken this into consideration, and the yearly turnout of the knights and barons is increasing steadily.

Pain elementals dont actually spawn lost souls, they just store em in their cheeks like chipmunks. Think about it, why they got those arms? Arms perfect for shoving lost souls in their mouth.

The "demons" are only demons in the figurative sense, they're a malevolent alien race that uses our fears against us, the timeless enemy is seen through different lens depending on what they are at war with, and in our case human. They subvert technology (arachnotron/spiderdemon, revenant, fatso, cyberdemon) and use it against us. "Hell" is not literally hell, but another dimension, and comprises of multiple pocket dimensions which explains the wildly varying reports of its appearance (IWADs and PWADs are canon in this sense). Icons of Sin are created to establish a war machine and serve as the focal point for invasions and invasion management, such as the armies being literally pumped forth from it and teleported around through rifts tearing through the fabric of reality.

The "Future Threat" level from Wolf3D Ultimate Challenge takes place on the Phobos base between KDitD and Doom 64. The demon BJ fights there has yet to fully mutate into the Mother Demon. Alternatively, it's not a mutation but how it naturally grows, like how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly.

Doomguy died when he crossed the portal to Deimos, and from that point on everything else was an illusion created by Hell as part of his eternal tailor made torture. Doomguy never beated Hell's leaders because there were none, he was fooled into beign sent to Earth, and also going back to Hell and destroy it which is impossible. Doomguy's fate is to forever fight and die in an endless war against Demons in many different sub-realities of Hell.

They prolly suck as cooks, their flames do nothing and they will splat everything with their explosive attack. No one should attend a BBQ in which an Archie is the cook. Then again this is hell so it's appropriate that Arch-Viles do the cooking.
