Question about DoomGuy and Dark Lord

Why does DoomGuy remove his helmet when he slays the Dark Lord, but not when he kills the hell priests?

the likely meta reason? because it's the very end of the game and it's a bit of a fanservice reveal for the players.

Maybe in recognition that his fight is over. The helmet, used for war and his personal crusade against Hell has come to an end.

So that his foe could hear the cool one-liner he came up with, viz. "sayonara, dork lard", when he slays him. With the helmet on, it would be all muffled and that'd be a lot less satisfying.

Does that mean that all the "Umfs" Doomguy makes in Classic Doom is actually Duke Nukem Style One-liners but his helmet muffles him and all we hear is "Umf"?
