whybmonotacrab Posted November 9, 2022 Not Doom. Apart from watching my step dad play the PS1 version for a little bit, I didn't play Doom until college. My nostalgic games are: Abe's Oddysee/Exoddus: Played the shit out of these games with my younger brother and Grandmother. Alone in the Dark: A New Nightmare TIMESPLITTERS: Best console FPS games of all time and I will not hear a word against them. Jak and Daxter Klonoa Resident Evil 2 Tony Hawk - all of them, but especially THPS3 and THUG1 since those are the ones I played the most. Serious Sam: I played the shit out of a demo for this back in the day. Pandemonium Lemmings. God of War 1/2: Honestly, they hit at the perfect time for me. If I was any older/younger when I played them I doubt they would have blown my mind the way they did. Turns out 13 is the perfect age to play those games. 3 Share this post Link to post

I never thought it would get a remake, and when it finally got one it was worse than the original in every way, and didn't include MediEvil 2, which I thought was just as good as the original. MediEvil Resurrection was okay though. Its shortcomings were more forgivable since it was a PSP game. The music was divine. The PS4 soundtrack is so dull. I also like Worms. Disappointing to hear about the remakes being a bit chuff, I loved MediEvil enough to not bother with them because the originals are still very playable IMO. I must say that 2 is probably my favourite in terms of gameplay but 1's settings and atmosphere are incredible, for instance Kew Gardens is great but Pumpkin Gorge is better. I say that but MediEvil 2 had Greenwich Observatory, whilst an interesting level those mind control squids can fuck off. But yeah, absolute classics and anyone who hasn't played should. As for Worms it is tragic, I'll say Armageddon and World Party were the peaks for me (even if World Party was deemed as an overpriced expansion, I still love it) but I was quite fond of 3D and 4 (!!!). The problem with Worms is that they spent too much time reinventing the wheel and ended up with squares, triangles and whatever the fuck non-euclidean geometric abomination Worms Rumble is. 2 Share this post Link to post

I recently saw V/H/S/99 and really liked this bit where they show Resident Evil 2 being played, which is a nice detail they got right for making the movie taking place in year 1999. I recently beat the PC versions for Abe's Oddysee and Exodus, I have the remake but still have to get around to playing it, and be ready to die a lot, lol. And yeah the two Pandemonium games are certainly a trip. I remember finding the intro for Pandemonium 2 really funny as a kiddo when I first played it: 1 Share this post Link to post
xX_Lol6_Xx Posted November 9, 2022 Super Mario Kart Soul Calibur 2 (Xbox version) Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly. Never finished it but it was awesome. Snes Doom Zombies ate my neighbors Left 4 Dead Ninja Gaiden for Classic XBox. Didn't finish this one either, the dvd drive stopped working :< 3 Share this post Link to post
Bubuche87 Posted November 9, 2022 (edited) I also spent time on Medievil and Turok dinosaurs hunter. The music of Medievil is one of the best I heard on a video game and the ambiance was awesome ( at least for the first 3/4 of the game ). I had it in French ( I am french) and some lines are still fresh in my mind. "Hâtez-vous camarades, démolissez ces lieux . Si on ne trouve pas l'Artefact de l'Ombre, Lord Zarok va nous consigner dans l'antichambre du démon pendant le prochain millénaire." The scarecrows were awesome, the sound of the mother in the village ... Anyway. Turok's sounds ( the voice ) when you take damage are used in Doom RLA for the marauder class. I also had Lylat wars and starfox on SNES. The sequels of turok aren't as good as the original, even though the Cerebral Bore is a pretty awesome weapon. EDIT @xX_Lol6_Xx Yeah Fatal Frame 2 IS awesome. I had the director's cut edition, that would be better named "perv edition". I prefer the first of the serie, while admitting the second is objectively better. I also played the third but it's not nearly as good as the two others. 2 Share this post Link to post

Nikku4211 Posted November 9, 2022 I've played a whole lot of Adobe Flash games when I was a kid. Plenty of Mario Flash games, some Sonic Flash games, that weird Flash game where you kill Blossom from PPG, a PPGD Flash fighting game, even one of those weird PeTA games(I never understood their messages as a kid), Inkagames, a lot of Flash games. 0 Share this post Link to post
heliumlamb Posted November 9, 2022 i think i told my dad "that looks like boomhauer AND dale gribble at the same time" first time i saw this game's title screen. the player sprite looks like duke nukem after going into rehabilitation for anabolic steroids. it's a very not good game, helped level out my expectations from this medium from that point forward. 0 Share this post Link to post
Chezza Posted November 9, 2022 Many games. But if I were to think of nostalgic games back when I was a kid... Wizz Kid, Turrican, Golden Axe, Dungeon Keeper, Crusader no remorse, Doom, Dark Colony, Warcraft, Disciples to name a few. 3 Share this post Link to post

hybridial Posted November 9, 2022 (edited) Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage 2, Golden Axe, Streetfighter II, Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, Biohazard Battle and Tiny Toons Acme All Stars for my first console. Killer Instinct, Vortex, Starfox, Super Mario All Stars, Yoshi's Island, Super Metroid, Link to the Past for my second console. I'll go no further than my third, for that, Goldeneye, Killer Instinct Gold, Turok 2, Duke Nukem 64, Mario 64, Perfect Dark, 1080 Snowboarding, Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, F-Zero X, Blast Corps, a range of pretty awesome AKI wrestling games and Ocarina of Time which certainly was my favourite ever game for a long time and is if I still build my list on my entire history of playing games and not just how I relate to them now. Now if you can't figure out what these consoles were, I can't help you :P 2 Share this post Link to post
Hisymak Posted November 9, 2022 Legend of Kyrandia. This is very beautiful adventure game which takes place in a colourful fantasy world with forests, caves, magical characters, and a big castle in the end. I can say it influenced my life a lot, as I played it since I was about 3 years old. It has very nice soundtrack by Frank Klepacki: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymTioBu2_Hk 1 Share this post Link to post

The problem with Worms is that they spent too much time reinventing the wheel and ended up with squares, triangles and whatever the fuck non-euclidean geometric abomination Worms Rumble is. I like Worms 3D and Mayhem too, I even had a lot of fun with Forts Under Siege. They re-released 3 and 4 on PC, but they combined the two games into one package with some stuff missing. The last modern 2D one I tried was so generic I couldn't even tell you which one it was. I have little interest in any of the new ones, but Armageddon got a new patch which is great. World Party was actually the first one I played, so I like that one more than Armageddon. I got it off of Limewire probably around 2004, someone's copy where all their worms were named after pornstars. The PS4 remake of MediEvil completely lacks the gothic atmosphere of the originals, instead opting for a more colorful look, and the soundtrack is nothing compared to 1,2, or Resurrection, which had great orchestral renditions of the original music and even a song or two from MediEvil 2. They also made it sound like they were going to add cut levels like the Dragon Chase stage, but it turned out that the new content was just some extra challenges in the levels. Some parts were okay, like Pools of the Ancient Dead or Gallows Gauntlet. The series is probably dead for real after the underwhelming remake. 1 Share this post Link to post

ImproversGaming Posted November 9, 2022 Loved Target Renegade on the ZX Spectrum+. The game was great but also it allowed 2 player co-op, which was brilliant. Also Sid Meier's Civilisation, Dune and Doom were the big ones. Then of course there were the adventure games, particularly Lucas Art/Film like Monkey Island and Indiana Jones. Lots of fond memories. 1 Share this post Link to post

Your lucky you can, most of the games I played as a kid were on ZX Spectrum, tried an emulator years ago and they were universally terrible, some like Elite are incredibly impressive with 48k total memory but you'd have to be a sadist to play it now. Guess you grew up with at least NES, I honestly can't play further back than that these days. Edited November 9, 2022 by Wyrmwood 0 Share this post Link to post

I loved that game when I was a kid, probably around seven years old, because my Mom loved point and click games, like Kyrandia, Myst, The Seventh Guest, and Phantasmagoria. But Kyrandia was a really well made game, and I'm surprised that it doesn't get mentioned more often; it was certainly up there with Kings Quest and Monkey's Island. And it was always entertaining finding out the different ways you could kill Brandon. And as for the topic, I did really love Betrayal at Krondor, and I spent an entire Summer in the basement playing it back in 1997, so it is nostalgic to me. It wasn't a great game, but it was fun. It's a first person, turn based RPG using Raymond Feist's novels as the backdrop. It also had stilted FMV scenes that were cheesy as hell. "Gorath leaped forward, the chains writhing between his wrists like metallic vipers!" The presentation wasn't great, but the game was actually really fun. Especially when I realized you didn't actually have to go directly south to Krondor at the start, and you could go northeast, and get some of the most powerful weapons and armor in the game, learn extremely powerful spells like "Unfortunate Flux", teach Owen on the lute so he could play for money in taverns, and really just level up everyone in the party before you got to the end of the first chapter. And you could level up Gorath so that his chapter later in the game became a walk in the park. I should try replaying it again, it was a hoot. Just watching that video gives me +100 to Nostalgia And I loved the Moredhel riddle chests in it. Edited November 11, 2022 by Jello 1 Share this post Link to post

When it comes to point-and-click adventures, my second most favourite one I have great memories of, is The Neverhood. Very original and artistic game featuring a fantasy world made all out of clay, with a strong feeling of loneliness (you're alone in the world and meet just one or two other human-like characters), full of various puzzles and funny situations and animations, and very quirky soundtrack. I remember getting stuck in the section with a cannon and emptied pool, with an antenna room with a radio on its bottom. I had no idea how to activate the radio and get further, so later on, I found a walkthrough guide and finished rest of game with its help. Too pity I did not figure out myself the whole game. That game left lot of memories and feelings in me, several times I had a night dream about The Neverhood world. 1 Share this post Link to post
Chezza Posted November 11, 2022 Yeah the Neverhood should go on my list as well. Great childhood memories there. I surprisingly figured out vast majority of puzzels on my own however I've never completed the game. I was missing one more tape... I back tracked so much to find it but no luck. Sooo close. 1 Share this post Link to post
Kyle07 Posted November 11, 2022 To keep it short: I grew up with an NES, Win95 PC, where there were even some ports of SEGA games like Comix Zone, Pitfall The Mayan Adventure or Earthworm Jim. From there on PC was then my main platform until I got a Nintendo Game Cube. There are many games to mention, but I think Tomb Raider I might have been the first 3D game I have played. There was another 3D game for Win95, but I don't know its name. On the NES I played games like SMB1, 2 and 3. Metroid 1, Ninja Turtles and so on. 0 Share this post Link to post

Anyway, I'm tempted to ask a slightly different question: Have you guys felt nostalgic when playing any game that you did not play in your childhood (or whichever time period is your personal golden age of gaming) and were possibly not even aware of its existence back then? To me, this was definitely Rise of the Triad, which I first played (the shareware version) around 2006 and did not know about it back in the 90 when I got first introduced to the coolest games ever. But I felt very nostalgic from the very first moments into the starting level. I'll also add Tyrian to this, which I think I first played around 2010 (maybe a bit earlier). Oh, and probably Thor's Hammer, although I'm not sure if my main feeling is nostalgia or just pure enjoyment of the game as it is (at least, the first episode is excellent IMO). My interest in old games began in earnest sometime in mid-2000s, and I discovered many titles that I have a certain fondness for, because their visual style is very much like the 90s golden standard of sorts, and for the most part not found in modern games. This includes games like the Ishar RPG series that has possibly some of the best visuals of its kind, although I never properly played any of the games in the series, just the demos (plus watched some videos). 2 Share this post Link to post
