Why do telecommunication companies own movie studios?

Recommended Posts

I mean, sure, movie studios make money.  I guess that's a good enough reason.

But it's weird... Comcast owns Dreamworks, At&T owns WarnerMedia.  Again, a strange pattern.

Dunno, maybe it's just me.  Any thoughts on the matter?

So that they can use the shows they own as an incentive for people to use their services rather than their competitors'.

Same reason why Netflix or Amazon Prime started making their own shows, too.

And, in the other way around, same reason why very big game publisher wants to make their own Steam clone except shittier.

I hear they actually own a 33% share of all human souls too (apparently part of an acquisition some time in the 60s). What fun!

Also, the belief in infinite growth, I suppose. After all, companies never seem to be content with what they have.

Listen, I know perpetual growth. It's a great business model. Fantastic business model. Nobody knows perpetual growth better than me. People are always telling me how great perpetual growth is, and frankly, I agree with them. Incredible business model. The best you've ever seen.

Is that a Donald Trump reference? :P

Anyway, I know it has been half a decade already, but it still feels weird to me that LucasFilms has been absorbed by Disney. This is not even me commenting on the quality of the new Star Wars products or anything here, but rather reflecting on how it, and by extent George Lucas himself, evolved over the years. The same could be said about the likes of ActiVision and Electronic Arts when it comes to video games.

Donald Trump actually swore to destroy "Concast's" image. One of the few goals he had that every American would agree with. I fucking hate Comcast. But I hate AT&T too, and there's no alternative, so it's useless to complain.

Today is January 6, I call upon all of my followers to storm the Capital of Comcast and do whatever it takes to make sure they never charge me $600.00 for a cable box ever again.
