Deadnail is dead.

I don't know if anyone here still remembers him, but Deadnail/Negjay passed away yesterday morning. I'm pretty sure he checked out of here a long time ago, and I don't pretend to know what happened there, but I thought Doomworld would like to know.

I didn't know him. but it is sad to hear of someone passing away. I feel like this will become more inevitable as much of our community is middle-aged or approaching middle age.

I feel like that name rings a bell, from when I used to lurk DW years and years ago, but I can't be sure. Sad news all the same.

I'll keep this short as few are left who knew him but Josh was my friend. I'd even consider him a very close friend. We bonded over music and memes and I could always rely on him being around if I needed to vent, or laugh, or just shoot the shit. I knew of him from the old days of the forum and connected during my time on a small, private forum where other Doomers would hang out. Over time that place dwindled but Josh stayed on, making blogs that were often funny, sometimes tragic, but mostly a litany of his thoughts and feelings. Though everyone moved on we stayed in contact and shared many things, sometimes just talking late into the night. I wouldn't be person I am now without him. I love you man, and I'll miss you for the rest of my life. I can only say be good to each other, there's so little time we have.

I don't mean to pry, but assuming it isn't private info, was any cause of death given?

 

EDIT: I was searching for him and this old funny thread showed up, its clear the community back then loved the guy..

LOL. Man just made me laugh my ass off from beyond the grave.. Sounds like he had DW pegged a solid 20 years ago.. :)

Indeed. I did wonder why he disappeared from that forum. I will be keeping it around for as long as I can, should anyone want to use it look back on old times.

 

Very sad news, he will be missed. My sympathies to you Use and anyone else who was close to him. I was not super close to him, but always respected him. I can only hope he has the peace now that life seemed to deprive him of so often.

That's a real shame. I do remember him, I didn't realize it had been that long since he had been gone, although I don't remember a whole lot about him. But as soon as I saw that name, I felt bad, so he must've had a positive impact on me at some point.

I'm very sorry to hear this. I've encountered his name quite a bit browsing through old threads. I remember that at first I thought "Deadnail" and "dn (darknation)" were the same person. Turns out they're not really similar at all.

I stayed in contact with him for years after he left the forums, and he was a sort of friend of mine for a while. He used to dm me on AIM or Steam or whatever and rant at me about whatever was on his mind. Sadly last time I talked to him was in 2016 when we had a disagreement over Trump and he never messaged me again after that.

Hoping this isn't true, but RIP if it is.

Oh! Ok, now I remember Deadnail. That avatar he uses is what I remember him for. Daaamn, that old thread truly is a blast from the past. Just seeing a lot of those old names brings back memories.
