Havok Posted January 31, 2023 Or do people just play them out of curiosity because they're infamous ? 0 Share this post Link to post
Maribo Posted January 31, 2023 I assure you there are many people who adore infamous and otherwise esoteric wads. 28 Share this post Link to post
Lucius Wooding Posted January 31, 2023 BPRD is definitely a highly regarded mapper, however even though Nuts was never really a serious effort it's probably his most played and well known map. It was a different era, admittedly, but that still says something. 5 Share this post Link to post
Horus Posted January 31, 2023 To be fair, what is fun to speedrun and what is fun to casually play can often be two completely different things 1 Share this post Link to post
thelamp Posted January 31, 2023 Nuts is pretty good but 1squares is even better! 1 Share this post Link to post

Xerenogan Posted January 31, 2023 Yep. I use Nuts as a test map sometimes. 0 Share this post Link to post

Captain POLAND Posted January 31, 2023 Nuts is fine as long as you don't try to play it in GZDoom or get all the kills. 0 Share this post Link to post
Graf Zahl Posted January 31, 2023 Nuts is a great test map - but for all intents and purposes not really meant to be played. Even though some people actually managed. 5 Share this post Link to post
slowfade Posted January 31, 2023 When will an ordinary gaming pc be capable of running Nuts and allow Zero Master's TAS technique to be used in real time? 2 Share this post Link to post
Csucskos Posted January 31, 2023 Does anyone like bad maps? No. But people's taste differ so they find those maps enjoyable. Probably. 0 Share this post Link to post
Death Egg Posted January 31, 2023 Discovering people have been speedrunning a shitpost megawad I made 13 years ago put a smile on my face. 10 Share this post Link to post

This wad and 5minmap were the inspiration for what ended up being d5da and d5da2. We had a lot of fun running those maps and making our own silly 5 minute maps, so thank you for making them. :) 3 Share this post Link to post
Ozcar Posted January 31, 2023 (edited) Nuts is meant to how doom engine can handle with many enemies 0 Share this post Link to post
Master O Posted January 31, 2023 Crispy Doom plays Nuts.wad and Nuts2.wad without any slowdowns. As for nuts3.wad, it has a little trouble displaying the 12,000+ monsters on screen, but runs without slowdowns. I assume that new Hellion port is going to make all 3 wads work well without slowdowns. 0 Share this post Link to post
LouigiVerona Posted January 31, 2023 I actually like Nuts and play it from time to time. In fact, I even created some maps of similar nature for myself. It's fun to sometimes just face the monster crowd. 0 Share this post Link to post
OceanMadman Posted January 31, 2023 Nuts and nuts 2 are bad indeed. Nuts 3 on the other hand, is probably one of the best things B.P.R.D made. Its visuals are too beautiful, and it's quite fun to play if you know what you're doing. 0 Share this post Link to post
BigBoy91 Posted January 31, 2023 (edited) I love gimmick maps. Just have fun. I'll take good gameplay over an artful masterpiece anytime. That's not to say they're mutually exclusive, though. Edited January 31, 2023 by BigBoy91 1 Share this post Link to post
Grassy chunks Posted January 31, 2023 I like maps that take some time to beat, like , slaughterfest series, slaughterMAX, sunder and many more. Even if the map layout is very mediocre. 0 Share this post Link to post
LadyMistDragon Posted February 1, 2023 You mean, maps where you kill mass numbers of enemies, with minimal, if any consideration given to the progression? Unfortunately, yes. Slaughter maps are great in and in themselves but imo, it's a different matter to BFG-spam basically all the time. 0 Share this post Link to post
Kokoro Hane Posted February 1, 2023 Maps like these can be fun even if they're straight up impossible. Nuts always gets a good laugh out of me because of how ridiculous it is lol. My brother lieks to play it with mods for extra fun. 0 Share this post Link to post

Redneckerz Posted February 1, 2023 I am glad OP is partaking in this topic and not just making another one with a similar premise because this sure is a question that needs discussion. @Havok 0 Share this post Link to post
