Meme CP but actually good idea? Partial invisibility!

I was wondering, what if there was a whole set of maps in which the gameplay was based on constant combat under the effects of partial invisibility?

 

I'm not sure there has ever been a wad that forced you to grab blur spheres in multiple instances, and in multiple maps. And since not many times we find ourselves fighting under such conditions, it would maybe make up for a surprisingly nice community project idea, even though there seems to be tons of them currently taking place right now.

 

Let me know what you think and I could specify further rules and information.

probably would need to be at least -complevel 9 so a voodoo doll could constantly pick up partial invisibility spheres. I think the final map in magenta spire does this.

Yea, definitely voodoo dolls. But maybe only in certain fights, maybe not literally throughout the whole wad, Idk.

 

But I think it's at least an interesting idea. Speaking for myself, I would like to play a nice map with invisibility effect just for the experience and fun of it at least once lol.

 can confirm, the final map (map15) of magenta spire does this. so anyone that wants a taste of what playing with infinite blur feels like could start there

Yea, that's a a start, but the purpose of the idea is for the people to experience this situation in a set that was designed for that, rather than download a wad just to play one map that has that going on in it. Nothing against that wad in particular.

That's a lot of blur spheres. And what about the item percentage?

 

Blur sphere on top of every ammo box and medikit seems like a decent vanilla alternative. Or you could make some kind of crazy dehacked change that makes your weapons spawn blur spheres every time they shoot.

Um... no. Just no. I actively avoid the things in regular play. It would be like trying to play with something randomising your controls.

I think the same. Either that or the voodoo dolls. I think the spheres on top of soulspheres (and what not) would be viable.

Last year I made a micro-map called "What Do You Do With a Drunken Cyberdemon?" which starts the player on a blur sphere in front of a cyb, forcing you into a duel that's scarier than usual because the old three-step waltz isn't guaranteed to keep you safe. I didn't finish it because you could just fall back and wait for the sphere to go away (and it wasn't that fun anyway). I think it was a funny concept that could work with a different approach. The midi is, you know, "Drunken Sailor".

You can use dehacked to disable the blur sphere's "affects item%". Then they're optional, just like shells or medikits.
