Started work on some of the custom graphics, beginning with the Status Bar. Taking a little inspiration from Super Smash TV, but more of a general vibe than direct reference.

Once this is in better shape, something similar for the intermission screen I think, then title screen and story text screens and a new logo for the menu

I was thinking about making a song for Map30 that would literally be just Mr. Moustache (Obviously a little bit different, but very similar).

 

I instead made something that I cannot explain. To me, it sounds like shit but also sounds pretty good. Not good boss music, and I am thinking about reworking it, but I thought it was something to share. If you want me to use this as the Boss level song, please let me know, because I am going to use National Acrobat instead as a base for the Map30 song.

 

The title should explain everything else about what I feel the song sounds like.

This is certainly not awful and can definitely hear the Nirvana influence. Right now, only you know if it's going to work for your level, maybe something inspired by Black Sabbath would have a darker groove, but depending on how you're handling the IOS it might be too slow. 

 

Definitely keen to have custom/original music as part of the whole project.

This is great.

 

I love the compact feeling of it and the encounters are tough but manageable and the ammo balance/supply keeps it interesting. Each of the areas feels distinct with your texture use without feeling too changeable within such a small map.

I also really liked the classic "see the secret then find the right wall to get in" with the armor bonuses

I got to the end missing a third of the kills, so backtracked and opened up the additional sections from the ambush at the back of the blue key room, not sure if that's intentional or not but I liked that sense of optional exploration

There's no doubting the totality of the carnage here!

 

Really enjoyed the combat set pieces, especially the revenant staircase and the cramped final fight. Music was excellent too. Couldn't see anything amiss with the texturing. Adding a return-to-start teleporter is a nice touch for backtracking completionists. 

 

I found the ammo balance was one of the harder elements to manage, running low and having to use less powerful weapons toward the end of some encounters, but that kept up the urgency

 

Could only find two of the secrets as well, so will probably go back in and take another look for that. 

 

Looking forward to your next map.

Immense satisfaction crushing all the hell knights.

The sandwich between the quadruple archviles at the end needed some serious speed to manage as well.

Can't believe no-one has taken MAP13 Chunks Galore, I'll grab it!

I love Smash TV, especially the concept, aesthetic and vibe. Have you considered replacing some of the item sprites to be prizes like Smash TV? I don't see anything relating to the story in the OP so I'm not sure.

I love the status bar you've made and I'm keen to see the TITLEPIC when you get around to it. If you want some more variety I can make some recolors of monster if you'd like?

I'm going to be doing some more work on the Super Doom TV graphic elements over the long weekend. I keep going back and forward in my mind about new item sprites to fit the Smash TV theme. Where I'm at currently is that title pics, intermission, hud elements and menu logo are all surrounding the gameplay, and don't really change that familiar core experience. So at the moment i'm on the no side.

 

But I might dabble with it at some point...

I can take map26 "Slaughter em"  sounds like a simple enough prompt!  Also love the custom graphics posted so far.

I played through on all three difficulties and it was good. The ammo is a definite challenge on UV, but once you realise that and can ration, use berserk for the minor characters, it's doable.

 

I totally don't mind the hellish passageway at all, especially as it's connecting two more sci-fi tech areas. Good music choice as well, what is it?

 

Were you going to stick with the map prompt for the title, or go with something new?

Going back to my previous comment, every difficulty level has the same start section, then it's three different routes after you get the red key. So the plasma could be a secret in this section as everyone has a chance to get it initially or backtrack for it?

 

I was missing two enemies on UV, I think one was an errant lost soul, but you do have a UV mancubus living in the void:

The music is Asteroid Dance part 1 from the Tyrian soundtrack (great game with a killer midi soundtrack I'm surprised isn't used more often in Doom.)

 

For the final version I'll do a thorough check that everything is tagged with the correct difficulty, so nothing shows up toward the kill count that isn't supposed to, and give void manc his eviction notice.

Amazing game and soundtrack. I try to use one of these songs for a level I made for a CP some months ago, but it would not fitted with the general theme. such a shame.

The game is free on gog in case you're interested, and I think it also comes with a download of the soundtrack.
