Pump_Kn1ght Posted April 12, 2023 So I have been watching decino´s YouTube videos (which I must say, they´re all pretty cool) and recently I came up with the "Doom challenges deemed impossible" video. I got impressed by the fact that, in reality, is imposible do beat DooM II´s Icon of Sin without actually attacking him... or is it? When I saw that, I had a flashback from the first time I faced that monstruosity on Chocolate Doom, and I realised there was a Revenant on UV and higher difficulties which always spawns in front of the Icon of Sin itself. That also made me remember the fact that Revenants are also on the Icon of Sin´s rng spawn pool. And, how convenient, the Revenant´s main weapon is a rocket launcher! What a coincidence! I continued that thread on my mind, and a plan took form. If I managed to gather a fair amount of Arch-Viles, so I was able to reach the Icon of Sin´s weak point, and I made some spawned Revenants to shoot me while I´m standing there, they will all go into the hole when I drop down! This way, John Romero´s head can suffer missile damage, and get killed! On the other hand, I realised this is a difficult, really difficult task. I mean, the only avaliable demos when a Map 30 pacifist run is "done" requires a lot of luck and Arch Vile tricks. I had managed to simplify it a bit (now u need a more common monster than a ton of archviles), but I don´t think i can do it by myself, at least, not in a short period of time. So this is my reflexion: If someone is crazy enough to try it out and it works, its a great new for all the community itself. It would be a shame that i kept this to myself, even if I am not able to preform that, but as a community that we are, I tell to u so someone can do it, someday. I just request the credit of such strategy in case someone manages to do it this way. This does not mean I´ll stop trying. I don´t think I will be able to, but that won´t stop me. Just hope this works out and that DooM II´s Map 30 is beated on pacifist once and for all. If you see any problem with this strategy, please leave a reply so i can edit it! Let´s beat some DooM II records for good!! 0 Share this post Link to post
Wagi Posted April 12, 2023 The only way the revenant missiles could go in the hole at all would be if you were killed and knocked into the hole with the John Romero head. Revenant missiles do not do splash damage so they would have to hit it directly. The problem is the boss brain is extremely short, so they would have to somehow fly through the hole without descending enough to hit the bottom (and if you're dead on the ground next to Romero, they would probably just descend enough to hit that and explode there). Assuming it could even get past that narrow chokepoint, it would then have to quickly descend all the way down to Romero's height level over an extremely short distance that I don't think they're capable of. None of this is possible anyway because homing missiles will stop homing as soon as you die. Even if they could, they are designed fly 40 units above your "feet", but the boss brain is only 16 units tall. 4 Share this post Link to post
Pump_Kn1ght Posted April 12, 2023 Wait, Revenant´s missiles DON´T DO splash damage?!? I thought they did 0 Share this post Link to post
GarrettChan Posted April 12, 2023 Rev missile doesn't do splash damage. Even homing ones, they can't hit the Romero head inside the hole. 1 Share this post Link to post
TheSlipgateStudios Posted April 13, 2023 Yep, this is all just fantasy. Map 30 will forever be unbeatable on Pacifist. 1 Share this post Link to post
CacoTuesday Posted April 13, 2023 Rev missiles are fireballs. The only enemies that can deal splash damage are Cyberdemons, Arch-Viles, and barrels (technically an enemy) 0 Share this post Link to post
