And RAMP2023 doesn't run at all on GZdoom 4.11 beta due to Decorate errors. So it won't be playable for very long, unfortunately...

Have you got the most recent version of the RAMP download?  There was a version of 4.11 that broke it, now fixed, and I'm wondering if you mean that or if something's broken again.

@jerrysheppy You're right, it works now, with non-beta GZdoom 4.11. It still reports shit-ton of Decorate and script errors/warnings during startup, though.

The cavalcade of errors will assuredly never be fixed, lol.  If it loads then it's good to go.

Yes! Done the majority already on HMP so a lot is rerunning too, but most maps are above average to amazing quality. There are some stinkers in there (despite it being a beginners project at base). On the other side of the coin is the 4+ sized maps: in my honest opinion RAMP should include 'up to 3 sized maps' as defined by the current dividing. Ie, 15min max? The gigantor maps are amazing on their own, but that's why I don't know if it should be RAMP maps. Having said that, both Exaltation (single segmented in two tries) and Thread the Needle (died on the first attempt, need to redo) are awesome: just the right length imo.

After a few months pause I've been picking up the RAMP playthroughs again. Had a little savegame error so had to start again and tick off the maps already played but we're back on track! Here's part 9 and 10

PART 09

PART 10

@A Handsome Fridge, thanks for playing my map. About not-working secret teleporter - It was my flop with difficulty flags. They were set to Hard only for teleporter landings, and I didn't double-check them before submitting the map. Also some decorations don't appear on Easy and Medium difficulties because of this.

But I've learned my lesson and now I'm more attentive to small details.

I figured it was something like that, sometimes you see funny things when not playing on UV :D

Next part of my RAMP2023 playthrough is up! A bit of a dark (literally, not moodwise) and long one, but there are fun and interesting places to see in this session.

Note: At 2:45 - I can't read and thought I typed next instead of neat. So the correction wasn't needed but there you have it anyway.

@DavidN Hey, may I preemptively suggest having some sort of (optional) theme - like Ludum Dare, etc...I always find it easier to get the motivation to make something when there's some sort of direction. Also, from a player perspective, I love seeing people's unique takes on a specific prompt.

@BeachThunder This project’s to encourage beginners to take a step into Doom mapping without any restrictions or themes (although maybe a prompt generator might help people get ideas…) If you’d like to run a project with a theme yourself I can set up an instance of Rampart for you!

Glad to hear I like to be free. Mapping without restrictions is a big perk for me and when ramp comes along just the experience is enough to get me motivated

RAMP 2023 had six themes as I recall - starbase, town, Hell, haunted ruins, UAC and weird... :-)

Do you have plans for RAMP 2024, I hope?

I would like to join, if it happens

Yeah, but that's not a theme in the sense we're talking about here!

Or, to put it another way, if people need to be told "This is Doom; you can make various types of map including, for example, UAC bases and Hell maps" then they might already have other problems, lol.

Until further notice I think it can be safely assumed that RAMP is a yearly thing.

Methinks the :-) at the end of my comment isn't pulling its weight.

If anything, the theme was (and should continue to be) to push yourself into making the best map you can. For complete beginners, a basic techbase would qualify; my first effort was a series of four different styles, as I was largely figuring stuff out as I went along. For people who've been mapping a while, it's a good excuse to start messing around with new formats or start trying to use custom music or graphics. Those with a lot of logged hours are more likely to come up with something artistic and epic.

Sometimes we get maps that are really weird, because mappers are wondering "what if I did X?" and making a level out of it. And those can be awesome. One of the 2023 maps was entirely black and you had to paint the walls with a light gun. Memorable!

Subway RAMP?

I might make a map that is not just a proof of concept that uses a subway train similar to this train for ramp 2024... maybe I could have more stations and have the train move faster between stations on its own like a real subway train would do

There is a script error with GZDoom 4.11.3image.png.842661f0e413deff4fed4bb926d1b1f6.png

What must i do to get it running?

I remember RAMP breaking with 4.11. It's basically that one file it says in that error mesasge. There's 3 options

It is sod's law that minimum GZdoom was 4.10 yet next version came out 2 months later and it broke. XD

Thanks it worked. I saw Crazed Moon in the Island of the Killer Cacos and its Author mentioned having published one version in RAMP 2023 so i had to check it out.

GZDoom 4.12 is working fine with RAMP 2023

I have a similar problem with 4.12, but it happens only when I add Beautiful Doom 7.1.6. Is there any way to use both mods at the same time somehow changing the BD716 properties to make it work? Thx in advance

Guess what? Another session of RAMP 2023 is up!

In this episode:

My Reverse Plugged in Generator Powered House dot wad by @Clippy 133 166 217 🇨🇦

Breaking Doom by Jesse Pinkman

Fired! by JeffAri

Anger Management Disorder by @Clippy 133 166 217 🇨🇦

I didn't purposely steer this episode towards a Clippy double bill, but faith had planned it so that day, so enjoy! HD should be up soon as well.
