a question regarding post hell

i suppose this has a chance of heading there as well, but what are the criteria for sending a thread for post hell? the faq didn't really list any set rules, unless i missed something. it seems like there are quite a few threads that are closed prematurely because of this. for instance, why was this closed? it can't think of any rules that it would be in violation of. i don't mean to sound rude or confrontational, i'm just interested in what the judgement of these posts is based upon.

supermods can send threads to post hell. whether or not a thread is sent to post hell is based solely on their judgement. all of the moderators on these forums have access to an internal forum where issues can be raised, which means we are largely self-policing.

it's informal but it works.

as for the specific thread you mentioned, it was unconstructive criticism. i agree that arioch should have PH'd it.

I imagine the reason is often "this thread is about to turn to shit; better close it". In the case of the thread referred to, it looked like a "free teh Anomalus!" campaign was about to erupt.

The forums are probably in the best shape right now as they have been in their entire history. If you weren't here for almost 3 years, then you wouldn't believe how magggot-infested, rotten, and utterly condemned the place once was. Thread after thread filled with dozens of meaningless responses. Idiots galore. Unbelievable stupidity. And then after that I guess some good moderators appeared. I guess that's the only possible explanation.

Everyone has something put in post hell at some stage, it's not always the authors fault so don't worry about it.

We're pretty good at spotting genuine fags, we've had a fair bit of practice now. We just send stuff to post hell that has basically become an opportunity for those minority fags

The truth is, I can sense one or more of our moderators are being stupid from time to time. We were discussing about this issue regarding the behavior of moderators and decisions they made to the forums days ago in #Zdoom. I find moderators have abused their authority to changing the titles of certain people they have problems with, however personally I do not think they actually deserve such "punishment". For example, this post mentioned by "Pregnant With Worms" should not have gone to Post Hell. Internet might not be a free land as United States is, but topics posted on here are meant to be openly discussed, least in regular forum sections.

forum decisions are not for the regular users to make. obviously not everyone is going to agree with everything, but I have yet to see a thread go to post hell that didn't deserve it. think otherwise? too damn bad. don't like it? nobody's forcing you to post here, feel free to leave and post on more 'leniant' forums.

Is it me or has everyone become a little more critical of what the mods do. I think if anything, they are doing a really good job. As far as post hell is concerned, I usually find threads that are useless, dumb, that digress from the main topic or threads that induce flame wars. Where is the problem there?

I agree with doomedout. Being on the forums is a privilege. And it can be taken away because it is just that. Not a right. So we shouldn't complain. It's not as if we have to pay membership dues or something. We've got it pretty good here.
