To me, i hate the change, a singular letter on a website is really stupid and a shit decision, especially every changes they made after buying Twitter is stupid.

Setting aside how incredibly phoned in both the name and the logo are, completely toileting a name and brand as recognizable as Twitter seems to me to be a fantastically stupid decision. Like I never gave too many shits about Twitter from the beginning but there’s no debating how much the whole concept, and just the word “tweet”, have lodged into the popular consciousness in a way that way that will be hard to replicate. Like are people really going to say “I re-X’d this video” or “I X multiple times a day” and expect to keep any shred of dignity? The whole thing is clearly part of the man’s ever-ballooning ego trip, though I won’t be too surprised if he partially walks it back and claims that was always the intention or some other gooseshit like that

To be honest I somehow missed the news of the name change up until the point it actually happened. Funnily enough this was a few hours after deleting my account on there. Frankly the site has become even more of a cess-pit in recent months. It isn’t really politics per se but given some of my other interests and hobbies (I am a moderator for a weather forum in the UK) and the fact that Twitter/X has seemed to be filled up to the brim with people who are diametrically opposed to certain views (if they are even real individual people to start with), it was becoming a rather depressing place to visit.

Most of the normal people fled to Mastodon/Bluesky/Threads so only the hardcore dedicated blue check freaks, grifters and charlatans remain. I've always hated Twitter so this has been a fascinating watch. If I didn't know any better I'd say Musk was deliberately trying to burn the site to the ground.

Honestly don’t really care because Twitter has always been lame. All these people getting worked up over the changes to twitter as if it is some form of life support they can’t live without are entertaining at least.

I've never been a Twitter user, but there are a few Twitter accounts I kept in bookmarks because they were interesting.

 

Musk made it nearly impossible to do that without an account, so well.

I've seen the changes Musk has made with Twitter as being a mixed bag, but this one is... puzzling to say the least. It's not impossible to rebrand something as well-known as Twitter and Tweeting, but let's just say you could do a whole hell of a lot better than 'X'. There's just no ring to it, and it's ubiquitous enough in common language to be mixed up with other things, which is something you really don't want in a brand. Again, puzzling.

fun fact: people in/from the chicago area still call the willis tower the sears tower (including myself). rebranding incredibly iconic things doesn't work.

I've pretty much stopped using Twitter years ago, mostly for tweeting back a crappy meme picture to the Angie Tribeca Twitter account. I had been meaning to delete my account until I recently found out I had been locked out of my account.
