TheShep Posted August 10, 2023 Ok confirmed, yes it is the full juicy remaster. Super cool! 0 Share this post Link to post

I guess... But it still featured a couple of original enemies, so it would have been a nice bonus, like Quake I's N64 port. At least, I hope the remaster gives the expansion weapons and items their own keyboard shortcuts. 0 Share this post Link to post
Rexen² Posted August 10, 2023 3 minutes ago, TheShep said: It seems like it might be bundled with Quake II on Steam if you bought that in the past. I have a 5.2 GB download so perhaps this is true. That's odd my download size is 3.3 gb and when I did try to launch the game before updating (I didnt notice the update right away) I got a missing executable error, but I did get options to play the original Quake 2 and the mission packs. 0 Share this post Link to post
Midway64 Posted August 10, 2023 (edited) Maybe that's the 'improved AI' part of the game, i dunno, download still not popping on GOG. @Rudolph 0 Share this post Link to post
Midway64 Posted August 10, 2023 GmanLives already made a video about the release. Because it's one of his favorites games that is! 0 Share this post Link to post
Dweller Dark Posted August 10, 2023 Doesn't look too bad, unfortunately I have the same problem with this remaster as I did with Q1's (even using the DX11 API). Fortunately, Yamagi will run the old Q2 files, so there's that. Not sure where the N64 and Call of The Machine files are tho. 0 Share this post Link to post

True, but I'm hoping against hope that we might at least see the Arachnid and Guardian enemies show up in CotM. Probably not, though. 0 Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted August 10, 2023 (edited) For some reason, I have always seen Quake II as the StarCraft of first-person shooters. I am not sure why, though, since the Strogg are too human-like and reliant on technology to be like the Zerg and too cruel and violent to be like the Protoss. Go figure. Maybe it is just because those two games came out more or less around the same time, i.e. 1997/1998? 0 Share this post Link to post
spispopd Posted August 10, 2023 Considering the Blade Runner remaster, im a little skeptical of this... 0 Share this post Link to post
Midway64 Posted August 10, 2023 They also changed the medkit's cross color on the remaster... Were you expecting backlash? No you moron, I LOVE GREEN CROSSES! I LOVE GENEVA COMPLIANCE! 0 Share this post Link to post
Midway64 Posted August 10, 2023 I ain't buying the LRG stuff, but the stuff included is neat. 0 Share this post Link to post
Midway64 Posted August 10, 2023 My god, GmanLives' video shows a lot of stuff not shown in the trailer. COMPASS MODE?! CONCEPT ART?! RADIAL MENU FOR INVENTORY?! This video gonna do me well while I wait a little bit till the download on GOG pops out. 0 Share this post Link to post
BGreener Posted August 10, 2023 My mood and reaction towards all of this is perfectly summed up by my avatar: Digging all of this even after being thorougly Strogg-lobotomized 1 Share this post Link to post
scalliano Posted August 10, 2023 Watching the QC stream right now - Hugo doesn't have a clue where he's going XD 0 Share this post Link to post
Midway64 Posted August 10, 2023 Better take advantage as an opportunity to advertise the compass feature! 0 Share this post Link to post
D4NUK1 Posted August 10, 2023 I'm also watching the streaming, seeing Hugo streaming again bring back memories of his Doom Eternal Gameplays. 2 Share this post Link to post
Redneckerz Posted August 10, 2023 (edited) Additional links: Tech rundown on the new Quake 2 Engine technology (Yes, this is still at its base Q2!) (But is it Kex???) Accessibility options rundown Engine source code I love how they modernized the original tech and brought it up to speed - Truly a testament of legacy past. Now, Q2 looks sublime... but dare comparing it to the often-forgotten Xbox 360 port, which too has a modified engine: Edited August 10, 2023 by Redneckerz 3 Share this post Link to post
Rexen² Posted August 10, 2023 My only issue so far is there doesn't seem to be an option to tell the game what mic to use. 0 Share this post Link to post
spineapple tea Posted August 10, 2023 Been playing around in it for a bit and this game has never looked better. I can't really notice the enhanced models that much and didn't even realize they were automatically on at first. The id Vault in the main menu is really cool to look through by the way and I gotta love when remasters/rereleases/remakes/whatevers go the extra mile to add neat trinkets like that. 1 Share this post Link to post
,,, Posted August 10, 2023 (edited) Nightdive Studios have once again went above and beyond. Especially so soon after bringing out another remaster, they had to bless us with this as well. Congratulations to all of the Nightdive members who browse this forum for another great release (and thanks for putting up with our annoying speculation) Also anyone notice that the Quake 2 N64 theme has become the de facto Quake 2 theme now? If you exit to the menu without playing the attract demo that's what plays and I think that's really cool, it's a great tune. 3 Share this post Link to post

,,, Posted August 10, 2023 (edited) Oh my god the id Vault has playable prototype levels. There is so much content in this that it's unbelievable 2 Share this post Link to post
Dweller Dark Posted August 10, 2023 After a good restart and using DX11, the remaster works decent, even with most of the visual effects turned on. Aside from that, Q2R is pretty nice, and multiplayer performs decently enough for me. 0 Share this post Link to post
scalliano Posted August 10, 2023 So the PSX version might not be included, but it is absolutely here in spirit. 0 Share this post Link to post
Murdoch Posted August 10, 2023 Looks like another winning remaster. Might check it out this weekend. 0 Share this post Link to post
