Still doesn't pop up the download for the Enhanced release on GOG yet.

Playstation Quake II is a butchered down mix of the PC campaigns, including the tutorial Quake II N64 map, so there's really no point.

I guess... But it still featured a couple of original enemies, so it would have been a nice bonus, like Quake I's N64 port.

At least, I hope the remaster gives the expansion weapons and items their own keyboard shortcuts.

It seems like it might be bundled with Quake II on Steam if you bought that in the past. I have a 5.2 GB download so perhaps this is true.

That's odd my download size is 3.3 gb and when I did try to launch the game before updating (I didnt notice the update right away) I got a missing executable error, but I did get options to play the original Quake 2 and the mission packs.

GmanLives already made a video about the release.

Because it's one of his favorites games that is!

Doesn't look too bad, unfortunately I have the same problem with this remaster as I did with Q1's (even using the DX11 API). Fortunately, Yamagi will run the old Q2 files, so there's that. Not sure where the N64 and Call of The Machine files are tho.

True, but I'm hoping against hope that we might at least see the Arachnid and Guardian enemies show up in CotM.

Probably not, though.

For some reason, I have always seen Quake II as the StarCraft of first-person shooters. I am not sure why, though, since the Strogg are too human-like and reliant on technology to be like the Zerg and too cruel and violent to be like the Protoss. Go figure.

Maybe it is just because those two games came out more or less around the same time, i.e. 1997/1998?

They also changed the medkit's cross color on the remaster...

Were you expecting backlash? No you moron, I LOVE GREEN CROSSES!

I LOVE GENEVA COMPLIANCE!

My god, GmanLives' video shows a lot of stuff not shown in the trailer.

COMPASS MODE?! CONCEPT ART?! RADIAL MENU FOR INVENTORY?!

This video gonna do me well while I wait a little bit till the download on GOG pops out.

My mood and reaction towards all of this is perfectly summed up by my avatar: Digging all of this even after being thorougly Strogg-lobotomized

I'm also watching the streaming, seeing Hugo streaming again bring back memories of his Doom Eternal Gameplays.

Additional links:

I love how they modernized the original tech and brought it up to speed - Truly a testament of legacy past. Now, Q2 looks sublime... but dare comparing it to the often-forgotten Xbox 360 port, which too has a modified engine:

My only issue so far is there doesn't seem to be an option to tell the game what mic to use.

Been playing around in it for a bit and this game has never looked better. I can't really notice the enhanced models that much and didn't even realize they were automatically on at first. The id Vault in the main menu is really cool to look through by the way and I gotta love when remasters/rereleases/remakes/whatevers go the extra mile to add neat trinkets like that.

Nightdive Studios have once again went above and beyond. Especially so soon after bringing out another remaster, they had to bless us with this as well. Congratulations to all of the Nightdive members who browse this forum for another great release (and thanks for putting up with our annoying speculation)

Also anyone notice that the Quake 2 N64 theme has become the de facto Quake 2 theme now? If you exit to the menu without playing the attract demo that's what plays and I think that's really cool, it's a great tune.

After a good restart and using DX11, the remaster works decent, even with most of the visual effects turned on. Aside from that, Q2R is pretty nice, and multiplayer performs decently enough for me.

Looks like another winning remaster. Might check it out this weekend.
