Done with that burn/dodge tool plus some smudging to blend the colors. I love the lens flare effects, but I must not become an addict of it X). I got reference from a picture for some lights and shadows.

i agree on the lensflare.. a lensflare can be pretty neat when you deform it and use it n abstract work.. but for any drawing, 3d model or anything else it sucks!!

I love what you've done here! It's really 3D. The technique is awesome, but I find the figure itself somewhat monotonous. I think you need something to complement the red.
