What are the most strangely titled pieces of media you can think of?

Recommended Posts

Check out Anthony Braxton:

Spoiler

The diagram under the word "Braxton" is the title of one composition, in typical Braxton style.

I also recommend the album by Old Nick entitled *clears throat*: "The Night Of The Ambush And The Pillage By The Queen Ann Styl'd Furniture, Animated By One Of The Dozen Or So Spells That Thee Eastern Vampyre Has Studied (T.N.O.T.A.A.T.P.B.T.Q.A.S.F.A.B.O.O.T.D.O.S.S.T.T.E.V.H.S)"

"The Legend of Zelda" fails as a franchise title - go ask a non-gamer who the main character is.

Never played a Zelda title, though I know the protagonist is Link. I imagine Zelda is a mysterious place (like "The Legend of Atlantis"), or maybe a mythological character? Not a bad title per se.

Saint Seiya was renamed to "Knights of the Zodiac" internationally, which is an odd choice since... well, the titular knights are not the protagonists, but rather the villains of one specific arc and then they spend the rest of the story as mostly background characters.

Still, if you are unconcerned by all that background information (like me), "Knights of the Zodiac" sounds like a cool title. While "Saint Seiya" sounds weird - is he or her a Japanese saint? Are Japanese saints Christian, or Buddhist, or...?

Bonus (because it's not really media per-say, but i found it fitting for this):

Hardheaded Harold's Horrendously Humorous Haunted Hideaway (or, HHHHHHH for short)

Seiya is the main protagonist, so to rename the series as "Knights of the Zodiac" makes as much sense as renaming Dragon Ball Z to "The Ginyu Force".

Saints are holy warriors who each represent a mythological figure and fight using either martial arts or magic powers. The titular Gold Saints - who are indeed named after constellations of the Zodiac, but are never ever referred to as "Zodiac Knights" - answer directly to Athena, but as a result of a conspiracy within Athena's Sanctuary, most of them end up siding against the contemporary reincarnation of Athena and fighting her followers, the Bronze Saints, who are the actual protagonists. The conflict only lasts one arc, though, and then the other arcs are spent fighting either rogue Saints or Saints serving other deities, such as Odin, Poseidon and Hades.

Weirdest title I remember seeing was "the cry of the lavender in the field of grasshoppers".

There's an inflatable boat brand called Zodiac, so it always brought me the image of knights riding around on rubber boats.

Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw (creator of "Zero Punctuation") once made a space trading adventure game in the early 2000's and it's called: "Adventures in the Galaxy of Fantabulous Wonderment"!

Spoiler

It almost got a sequel that was titled: "Escape From the Dimension of insidulous Cruellitude"! However, Yahtzee lost interest in that project.

I am surprised that no one thought to mention some of Pink Floyd albums!

While a few of them have fairly self-explanatory titles, others are pretty strange and non sequitur, such as the infamous "Ummagumma" - itself easily the strangest Pink Floyd album - and the not-quite-as-strange "A Temporary Lapse of Reason" and "The Division Bell".

In Space Quest IV (1991, Sierra) they're a few spoof boxes. The choice of names gave me a good chuckle:

- A parody of "Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?": "Where in the World is Hymie Lipschitz? [and who really cares]" ^^

image.png.820b27c363472f1e1f7ac302f38e1b56.png

- A parody of the "Chuck Yeager" simulations: "Cluck Egger's Advanced Chicken Simulator"

A parody of the game "It Came from the Desert":

Sierra's early adventure games are wild and that's without getting to Al Lowe's "Leisure Suit Larry" series, where you can pick up STDs and be revived immediately.

The most strangest thing i heard on the internet were the late korean vhs tapes to 2007 to 2010, despite vhs being dead since 2008 in america with the last vhs made being the cars 2007 vhs, and south korea actully still made vhs tapes until 2010.

Both the artist name and the song name. I remember hearing this in a Team Fortress 2 taunt kill compilation from 2012-ish.

Not media per-se, but Fisher-Price. It's a brand for children and toddlers, yet I can't help but think of two of the most iconic special forces operatives in games...

Man, imagine how TotalBiscuit would've felt about this if he was still alive. Also, the dude in the cover looks like a screaming mini-DSP.

Oooh, right! I completely forgot about that. In my defense, I was not subscribed to his channel and I only watched a few of his videos.

I've made fun of kingdom hearts titles for this for years especially "Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary Passage-" and "Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days" (which by the way is pronounced 358 days over 2 for some reason)
