What are the most strangely titled pieces of media you can think of?

Recommended Posts

Saint Seiya was renamed to "Knights of the Zodiac" internationally, which is an odd choice since... well, the titular knights are not the protagonists, but rather the villains of one specific arc and then they spend the rest of the story as mostly background characters. "Knights" is also a misnomer since both originally and in the English dub, the characters are called Saints and only in the French and latin dubs are they referred to as knights.

There is also the Bollywood Terminator 2 rip-off Ra.One, which was inexplicably retitled to "Voltage" for the French market. I say inexplicably because Ra.One is the titular villain and there is no character named Voltage; in the French dub, the hero G.One was renamed to Voltage because reason.

"The Legend of Zelda" fails as a franchise title - go ask a non-gamer who the main character is.

"Irritating Stick"

Any weeaboo thing with a title like "Sengoku Samara X Higochi: SUPER Let's Unite DX We Are One Let's Come Together!"

"Yeah! You Want "Those Games," Right? So Here You Go! Now, Let's See You Clear Them!"

A lot of Square Enix titles:

"Live a Live"

"Voice of Cards"

"Triangle Strategy"

"Bravely Default"

"Various Daylife"

There’s a Canadian alternative band from the 90’s called “Godspeed You! Black Emperor” with an album titled “F♯ A♯ ∞”.

It’s got some nice interesting stuff, not gonna lie. The first track is probably my favorite “meloncholic apocolyptic” tune.

Live a Live

That one's intentional and actually a very clever pun. In the box art, the second "Live" in the title is rendered backwards... And "live" backwards is... Well I think you figured it out already.

some mention has to be given to "Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs". the title and subtitle both fit the game's story well enough but imo the effect is compounded if you assume the subtitle is supposed to refer to the title, ie, that somehow amnesia is a machine...for pigs

http://poopinmymouth.com/ is a site that has some nice tutorials about low-poly game modeling.  I swear.

If weird URLs don't quite fit the spirit of the thread, well... I'd like to come up with some that not only make you think "WTF is this about?" when you see the title but also "why is it even called that?" even after you've seen what it's about, but I'm a bit hard pressed there.  Limiting to just weird-but-applicable titles, pretty much anything by Chuck Tingle takes the cake.

Lots of Doom maps/WADs these days also have off-the-wall titles but you probably knew that.

I don't know if anyone remembers this from Adult Swim back in the day but it was called 'Off the air'.

Weirdest most fucking bizarre show i ever watched in my life. I still remember one scene where it started as a white back ground with no sound what so ever. Then a face started forming in front of the screen, then more faces showing up and more ect ect ect. The next part is still engraving in my skull still to this day, the faces started moaning for a bit then all of the sudden red paint (no i am not going to say blood, it was paint) started pouring down on the faces and the canvas. The faces....oh god the faces started whaling and screaming until it cut to black and the credits rolled with silence.

Ever since then 'Off the air' from Adult Swim i avoid that show like the plaque because it is so down right weird and bizarre.

Edit: I know what i'm going to hear "Man this sounds like a creepy pasta" It's not meant to be a creepy pasta, it's more of what i remember seeing at 3 in the morning, well waking up to at 3 in the morning because i passed out around 8pm that night.

I guess most Yu-Gi-Oh! spin-offs would qualify for this thread. I mean, GX, 5D's, Zexal, Arc V, VRAINS, Sevens, Go Rush...

Where do they even get these names?

"Public Castration is a Good Idea" - Swans album

Sounds like an "Anal Cunt" song.

That being said - Most "Anal Cunt" songs!

The band King Crimson has some songs with really weird titles. I'm not even gonna get into the names of some of their live improvisations (some of them are named just as weirdly), I'm just gonna talk about their more structured songs.

  • "Larks' Tongues in Aspic" - An instrumental series of tracks spanning 3 or 4 albums (depending on if you include "Level Five" or not), and some of the parts were released decades apart! As stated before - it's an instrumental series of tracks - meaning that there are no lyrics about bird tongues in gelatin.
  • "Starless and Bible Black" - It's not really that weird of an title, but the fact that years later some Japanese guy decided that it would be a really good name for his hentai visual novel - does add a bit of weirdness to the songs existence by simple coexistence.
  • "Thela Hun Ginjeet" - Once Adrian Belew came into the band - things only got weirder! At first glance - it's nonsense, but it's actually an anagram of the phrase "Heat In The Jungle" and the song is about crime in the city.
  • "ProzaKc Blues", "The ConstruKction of Light", "FraKctured" - The album "The ConstruKction of Light" had this thing going for it where they decided to add the initials of "King Crimson" into the names of songs by adding an extra capital letter "K" before some of the "c" letters (but not all of them, otherwise we would have "The KconstruKction of Light" and "Larks' Tongues in AspiKc – Part IV"). The song "FraKctured" is a bit of an oddity because King Crimson already had a song named "Fracture", and "FraKctured" is sort of a follow up to the previous song.
  • "The World's My Oyster Soup Kitchen Floor Wax Museum" - This! THIS RIGHT HERE! Fucking nonsense! For the longest time I didn't even know what the song was about, but eventually - I finally understood that this song is kinda like the song "Elephant Talk" - an exercise in wordplay. "Elephant Talk" is centered around synonyms, and "The World's My Oyster Soup Kitchen Floor Wax Museum" is based around word associations ("The World's My Oyster", "Oyster Soup", "Soup Kitchen", etc.).
  • "Elektrik" - The word "Electric", but written with Mortal Kombat rules, bekause it's kool!
  • "Radical Action To Unseat the Hold of Monkey Mind" - Say what you will about the modern live versions of the classic songs - the newer materials are fucking fantastic! The "Radical Action" suite being a real stand out! But yeah... strange name.

The chocolate starfish refers to an anus, the hot dog flavored water refers to semen. It really goes to show you just how mature Limp Bizkit truly is.

I'm sure I can come up with examples, but none are really striking me at the moment. I guess "Dance of the Headless Bourgeoise (youtube link)" by Nomeansno is one of them. I don't think the album had any real references to decapitated French noblemen.

In "50 Shades of Grey", the author also unfortunately refers to the anus as a chocoloate starfish. I guess it does make me a bit Limp, but I never really understood fancy and tasteful erotica like that.
