I've got that weirdness a couple of times, too, even with Ghostery and uBlock Origin on Firefox (never logged into YT on the PC): "You've been a very naughty waitress!" Well are you actually going to prevent me from using the site? "Umm... no." Weigh bloody anchors, I guess. 1 Share this post Link to post
Mr. Freeze Posted December 9, 2023 Is it really fair to complain about enshittification if you aren't contributing to a site's profitability? 1 Share this post Link to post

Even the FBI warned about ads, internet ads are just very bothersome, but even without ads in the question, I'd still say: yes. YT sends out subscriber milestone badges, after all, not "viewed ads badges". If I subscribe to someone, then I'm a contributer to the system. But back to ads: Theyare unsolicited, non contracted things, what if I don't have any money and literally cannot buy anything after paying the necessities (and internet, but without that there wouldn't be ads anyway)? Hel, money itself is BS, not my fault that system was invented and then shaped the way it is that causes an unending debt train where every dollar basically is an IOU to the master bank, and thus forces everyone to "make money". The resources matter. If video hosting sites were considered a human right then providing the resources, the actual resources, not money resources to it to keep it running, would solve that issue. There are so many things that are worth fixing more than trying to keep ads alive. I approve more of simply shutting down all public access to youtube as a privately owned website and demanding a fee for it than ads, because i am a proponent of contracts. Contracts are one of the most reliable ways to set up a business relationship/transaction... they should do that if they want to be sure. Otherwise, it's just a sore, and one that involves one of the most obnoxious things in existence, unsolicited adverts. I ain't buying, If I am interested in something then I'll actively look up 'ads'. Meh. P.S.: unless it has changed, the YT "You get three videos to watch and then it's curtains!" is cookie based, and perhaps IP based too, or whatever. All I know is that it's highly erratic, sometimes it crops up, sometimes it doesn't. Not logging into the account prevents it from appearing, etc. 0 Share this post Link to post
ApprihensivSoul Posted December 12, 2023 Expect to see more of this nonsense as corporate boards are forced to chose between their shareholders and customer base, which are increasingly mutually exclusive markets. This is a problem with public trading/financial democratization in general, but it's been coming to a head over the last few years with big tech. Lofwyr, do you know if there's a good way to specifically block cookies website by website? I'm a Vivaldi user, so I've got that nice Chromium backend to fight with of course, but I believe the Vivaldi team to be trustworthy when it comes to handling the structure. Not sure how viable the idea would be, but deliberately obscuring my IP and blocking cookies on a specific service without logging out of all my other ones seems like a useful one, if difficult. 1 Share this post Link to post
