which doom textures are useless or barely used?

You gotta put in some more effort into your posts, like "Here's why I think X is useless/or rarely used", can't make other people generate the discussion for you.

 

I'll bite though; can't recall the last time I used CEMENT textures (but I would not say they are useless).

I think that every texture can have its place in the hands of a true master. This is true about colors as well. There are neither wrong notes (Miles Davis) nor bad colors or textures, yet sometimes there is a lack of proper technique, imagination and dedication.

I think Wolf 3d textures are mostly useless unless you're specifically designing a secret level with SS soldiers like map 31, or doing a Wolf 3d total conversion. They're too out of place in Doom. Different artstyle.

less "useless" and more "out of place and hard to use": i have never used WOODVERT in my life. its just very hand drawn and flat compared to the other woody textures. maybe i should make a map with extensive WOODVERT usage now

Only problem with STARTAN is that it does not play nice with nonorthogonal or non-32px wide walls. Other than that it's good but I admit that I do not use it - it's harder to use.

Doom Zero uses that texture (or atleast a modified version of it) for doors that aren't openable, and I think that's a great way of using it. How many times have you been accidentally wallhumping because the map uses the same door textures for both actual doors that open and decorative "doors" to make the map feel more alive

Not a "useless" texture but certainly a very underused one, I think the only instance of it being used was in Doom 1 Episode 2's map3, and it was in an area the player could not reach, with the Cacos and nukage, I am also certain that it got deleted in Doom 2 and it's DLC.

CEMENT textures are very cool IMO and I find them very useful for outdoor areas.

I like to use it for closets.  I see it as a panel or something like that, so I use it as internal wall for closets.

 

On the topic, maybe any texture of the "Wolfenstein levels" because of its (very) limited use and because the theme doesn't fit.

A lot of textures didn't make into Doom 2 and some of them are really cool like ICKDOOR1

BROWNWEL use is like a secret handshake for Ultimate Doom maps and mappers, I always love spotting it in people's maps.

well, if we're talking specifically about mapping and not the inner workings of the engine, then aashitty and aastinky are literal useless textures
