Yeah, that's right. So I can't moan at you about my system any more :)

Some spec for those that care;

  • Intel Pentium 4 Processor 2.6Ghz w/ 512kb/second level cache.
  • Custom (don't ask) motherboard with 3 PCI slots.
  • 512MB Samsung DDR RAM @ 333Mhz (upgrade module supports up to 2 gig)
  • 120GB Seagate 7200rpm HD with ATA100 interface
  • ATI Radeon 9600TX card w/ 128MB DDR SDRAM @ 540Mhz
  • Stereo TV and FM radio card
  • 6-channel home cinema sound (supports surround sound)
  • Radio remote control controlling cinema etc. options
  • 3x Firewire/IEEE 1394 (1 front, 2 rear)
  • 5x USB 2.0 (3 front, 2 rear)
  • 10/100 Ethernet
  • Keyboard, Intellimouse! heh
  • Sony DVD ROM 16x
  • Pioneer DVD minus RW (2x DVD-RW, 4x DVD-R, 8x CD-RW, 16x CD-R, 12/32 read). Records straight off TV onto DVD.
  • Supports two monitors
  • Endless microphone, S-VHS, and 5.1 sound inputs and outputs
  • ConnectXL interface built in - reads Memory Stick, Micro drives, MMCs, Smart Media, Compact Flash and SD cards.
  • 19" CRT monitor.
  • 5.1 Surround Sound system with subwoofer (1x200w, 5x50w PMPO)
  • Software! For all office, multimedia, and other applications the hardware supports, such as Power Cinema.
  • Windows XP Home OS (on probabtion)
  • One year on site warranty
Whee. All this for £950. The PC was £800, the monitor £120 and the speakers £30. Best value I could hope for. I had to pull a few strings.

Right, now I shall disappear for a bit while I get all this going o_O

Dammit. I'm stuck with something less fast as that. I'm not even going to be able to play Doom III when it comes out..

Dude, join the club. It really doesn't bother me that much though. I'll probably play it like three years down the line, when I (hopefully) have a new computer, a place of my own, and of course Doom, DoomII, and Doom III :)

Pfft... new computers are so passé. The cool people now are buying OLD computers. Wanna be cool kids? Buy a Cyrix.

I've got an ANITA calculator from the 1960s or something. Wanna put in a bid for it? :)

Pritch has been shopping at Aldi stores.

Heh, I thought Aldi was nothing but a local store here.

You win!

Heh, this machine is amazing. One slight problem though.. can't seem to connect to the net. XP keeps making my broadband connection a dial-up one, despite me telling it otherwise. I really, really need to make it look different too, ugh.

A question. What's the best way to transer files between two PCs? I know my new one has networking capabilities, afaik this doesn't.

Hell no, Aldi is everywhere.

I tend to use an external USB Zip 250 drive. I've had no luck setting up a direct cable connection between my XP machine and my Win98 machines.

Your broadband ISP will be assigned to the id# of your old ethernet card, you need to look at info pack on how to make a new connection with a new card.

I'm pretty sure my old PC doesn't have ethernet.

I figured I could use my mp3 player, acts as a 128mb data storage device :)

Makes sense since my new machine has a built-in Smartmedia card reader.

Really stupid looking. Perfect for the kind of people who would buy from Alienware.

I can't really expand on that truth.
