Craneo Posted January 28 That one time I played D2DarkWorld with HDest, got stuck on The Crusher level equivalent, kept dying and was surrounded by demons that wouldn't stay dead, also accidentally overwrote my BDP D2Reloaded save with that HDest save while savescumming to try and survive that shit... ironically also overwrote that HDest save eventually while playing another mod... 0 Share this post Link to post
DreadWanderer Posted January 28 There were many, but the one I recall best is playing the secret fight of MAP15 in MAYhem 2018 Purple Edition. Designed by Benjogami, required for entering the secret level. I just gave up. If you want to see a successful run, check out Dae's playthrough from 6:20 to about 9:30: 0 Share this post Link to post
Stupid Bunny Posted January 28 The time I attempted a playthrough of 1337.wad, a megawad that even with prodigious cheating was never meant to be actually played My spirit was finally completely broken when I spent like a thousand hours slowly, tediously, miserably grinding through a never-ending spiral of shotgunners, finally reaching the exit, and stepping in...only to be teleported into another identical spiral filled with imps. One idclip later I realized that there would be yet two more spirals, full of pinkies and then cacodemons, and that even after all that time wasted I was effectively not even near a quarter of the way done. 0 Share this post Link to post
Gifty Posted January 28 No memory of the specific moment but I know that it was somewhere in Plutonia 2. (Plutonia 2 is great btw) 1 Share this post Link to post

It's not even the longest walkthrough for Eternal Doom, that title belongs to MAP20: Silures. ZDCMP2 has an even bigger one that even got its own page so it wouldn't "clog up" the main article (which is already pretty large, but dwarfed by its walkthrough!). 13 hours ago, JackDBS said: Two words: Hell Revealed Oh you sweet summer child... 0 Share this post Link to post
The Royal We Posted January 28 When I was little, my father uninstalled Doom because there was a report on TV saying that it was too violent. What a painful experience. 2 Share this post Link to post
Explorer of Time Posted January 29 Dying to E4M6: Against Thee Wickedly's central hurtfloor because I couldn't figure out how to make it to the next section, after fifteen minutes of running around trying to find the way to the next section, after having killed basically every monster on the map with lots of health and armor and ammo remaining. I still nurse a grudge against hurtfloors to this day. 0 Share this post Link to post
Ozcar Posted January 29 Listening to the song "Running From Evil" on some WADs for 500 times, which becomes a painful experience that drives me insane because of how repetitive and annoying the song itself is. 5 Share this post Link to post

Well, you've piqued my morbid curiosity. That project sounds pretty awesome, I'll add it to my list. 2 Share this post Link to post

Mix it up by replacing it with Freedoom Phase 2's MAP01 MIDI every so often. Similar vibes to Running from Evil, but a completely new song. 1 Share this post Link to post

TheCorinthian Posted February 3 The most painful experience I have had so far playing doom I would have to say is, Lilith.wad. I remember doing LSD back in the day that didn't fuck with my head as much as that cursed wad. 0 Share this post Link to post

doomlayman Posted February 12 A map mod about battles in space (Mars, Ganymede etc.) isn't techbase and isn't colorful enough. I need it techbase and colorful as in Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold, Corridor 7, Apgee games, etc. 0 Share this post Link to post
Beginner Posted February 13 (edited) When I played Adventures of Square on my old laptop, opening one particular purple door in E1M6 tanked my framerate to ~3 FPS until the end of the level. There was a weird workaround where pausing and unpausing would grant few seconds of playtime at normal framerate (~30 FPS), so the rest of the level was played while frequently scrolling the wheel to pause/unpause the game. 1 Share this post Link to post

Kebab_Hill12 Posted February 14 I honestly think it would be the whole Episode 4, i haven't finished it yet (yes even after 4 years of being in this community i still haven't finished the franchise) but the 2 levels are already painful already. 0 Share this post Link to post

Tbh, I find this as an annoying experience rather than something painful, which is also why i usually change the music and maybe even play the "Sign of Evil" if i want to, or simply just muting the whole thing but I think that makes the gameplay experience more creepy. 0 Share this post Link to post
