lmao

Though honestly, Doom music would be metal but there's nothing to stop you from imagining a Doom map while listening a music from a shmup...

...like so.

I thought I was the only one who did that. I can imagine an entire DOOM map with this in the background...

this is just me, i guess - when playing "hard" maps (i'm not very skilled anyway), i mute the game's music and listen to this peculiar music genre (helps calm my nerves) :P

I know it may be an unpopular opinion but personally I love the PlayStation final Doom soundtrack and sound effects which I later Learned was also used for Doom 64 this honestly to me made Doom feel like a horror game made you feel alone with danger around every corner The Rock and Metal is fun but this completely changes the atmosphere for me. I remember ambushes in levels like Crater and Deepest Reaches legit jump scaring me.

I mean, on a fundamental level, Doom sounds like a lot of samples with variable amounts of processing. In that sense, I'd say that Mastermind is more evocative of classic Doom than something like Super Gore Nest. But I think all that's needed to fit Doom is some dissonance. Pachelbel's Canon in D wouldn't be good music for a normal Doom level, but even that quality makes it more musically viable for something weird.

edit: I just saw that rita remton posted a mashup using Canon in D two posts above this one

There are only two ways Doom has ever legitimately made me scared that was:

1. These classic PlayStation and Doom 64  games with their ambient sounds and muffled sounding guns literally anytime an ambush would happen I would fall off the couch lol.

2. The only other time one has gotten to me was myhouse.pk3 I saw Midnight and decino cover it before I actually played it so I knew what was coming.  But even knowing what was coming, when that alternate house music starts going wonky even if you know it's a different track and even if you know it's coming something about being in that cramped little house with the music going nuts just gives you a sense of panic, its become  one of my favorite more recent wads of all time.

(And yes I know there are hundreds of Wads that like to nail people with cheap jumpscares, those just make me angry when they happen lol. Doesn't stick with you like these masterful Works have
