Xaser Posted February 3 This thread seems displaced out of time -- 2023 was one of the best years ever in terms of wads, with one of the biggest releases of all time (myhouse) drawing in a massive amount of attention. Far more people have been gaining interest lately than losing it, seems like. 11 Share this post Link to post
GibFrag Posted February 3 I have times where I play very little and times where I’m playing a lot. When I was a teen it was easy to waste all hours of the day, week, month, year on playing Doom, but as I got older I found that it is harder to do that, even when I want to. But I haven’t lost interest in the game itself, still one of my favorites of all time. 0 Share this post Link to post
Buckshot Posted February 3 (edited) It's been a part of my life since before it even was released (everyone was going crazy waiting) way back in 1993, so it feels like a natural extension of myself whenever i get a chance to play it. In a weird way its like family. I'm surrounded by so much of it intentionally and unintentionally over these past 30 years, either by playing it, reading about it, seeing it discussed, collecting it, etc that hardly a days go by where I don't reminisce about it for at least a few moments. It's more than nostalgiac memories... it's still very much a engaged community, fanbase and coveted as it was way back then, maybe even more so nowadays. It definetley played a major role in how i ended doing what i do for a living, the friends I have and interest in things/lifestyle that I enjoy today (along with early PC computing, tech and gaming in general). Hope that answers your question OP. Edited February 3 by Buckshot 2 Share this post Link to post
Li'l devil Posted February 3 I lost almost all interest in Doom for over 4 years and was barely active in the community during that time, but last year I suddenly got very interested in it again and became active again, which surprised even me. 0 Share this post Link to post
Lizardcommando Posted February 3 My interest comes and goes over the years. The longest time I went without playing much Doom was probably 1 or 2 years. 0 Share this post Link to post
Noiser Posted February 3 Well, Doom is an old game lol I've been playing this shit my entire life - from childhood, to teenage, to adulthood. Not sure if this is a good thing, but it is what it is. 0 Share this post Link to post
GreenAnime Posted February 3 i've had more interest in doom as if today cuz i really love the retro-esque simplicity and nostalgic vibe unlike the usual trendy modern stuff 0 Share this post Link to post
TheMagicMushroomMan Posted February 3 I've barely even touched DOOM for the past year. At this point I'm just here to talk to people. A lot of times I go months without even playing a video game. I'll switch my entertainment from games to movies. I bought a PS5 at the beginning of December, so I'm going to be doing that as long as I have interesting stuff to play. I do have DOOM 2016 and Eternal via PS+, and I would like to see what they're like in 4k 60fps, and check out the ray tracing as well. I'll always be the community psychiatrist though. It can be hard to talk about DOOM burnout, but it's completely normal to go through long periods of time without touching the game, and sometimes you might not even be interested in it. It's important to remember that everyone is different. Some people might have an urge to play only to give up after a couple minutes. Others might have the opposite problem and play for over four hours at a time. If you're having trouble blowing your .wad, just remember that you're not alone. It occurs in a third of men over the age of 40. Also why are you guys talking about 9/11. 1 Share this post Link to post
DiceByte Posted February 3 I will never permanently lose all of my interest in Doom. When (and if, possibly) I want it dies a Doom fan. 0 Share this post Link to post

Zulk RS Posted February 3 21 hours ago, 12GMONSTER said: Do you find normal DOOM entertaining or the modded version? This is an interesting question. At least I think so anyway. I don't think I've played "normal DOOM" in ages. When was the last time I actually played an IWAD unmodded? I have not lost interest as I still play PWADs with or without mods. Right now I'm playing through Interception with Brutal Doom. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mr. Freeze Posted February 3 Nah. Doom comes in waves but it's always been there for me, and me for it. 1 Share this post Link to post

But Goddamn, it's just a stupid joke I thought would be funny to me. 9/11 is of course a tragedy, but why do people have to be so soft it's just a stupid joke bru Pro-tip: you don't need to share every dumb thought that comes into your head. 19 Share this post Link to post
BeetBeardTheBrave Posted February 3 I occasionally lose interest in playing for a few days or weeks at a time, but I still enjoy letsplays and engaging with the community in that time. It's just so vital and fun as a gaming and art scene. It's hard to properly tire of. 0 Share this post Link to post
MS-06FZ Zaku II Kai Posted February 3 Haven´t actualy played for a long time. Maybe I´ll make a post asking folks on what wads to play to get back in the scene 0 Share this post Link to post
The Final Event Posted February 3 For sure. Some interests come and go over time. There's a reason I like to make stuff that drasticly changes the base gameplay now lol 0 Share this post Link to post
BUYXRAYS Posted February 4 Every now and then I completely forget about doom for a week . Usually because I am playing Quake instead 1 Share this post Link to post
UnknDoomer Posted February 4 (edited) As an old proverb says: "You can't lost interest in Doom. In Soviet Russia Doom might lost interest to play with you.". Edited February 17 by UnknDoomer 1 Share this post Link to post
pcorf Posted February 4 I don't map as often anymore but I have never lost interest. 0 Share this post Link to post
Async Unicorn Posted February 4 Sometimes and when playing certain maps (shovelware from the 90s, for example), but not that much, I still love Doom. Also, because sometimes I'm tired - sometimes I tend to map something myself! 0 Share this post Link to post
The Doommer Posted February 16 I don't do Vanilla playthroughs anymore (BD or CODB or RO is nice) but no I still have interest 0 Share this post Link to post
Caffeine Posted February 16 No, I don't get bored of Doom, although I do take breaks if another game hooks me and would you look at the time, I spent 8,000 hours in Factorio. I have been playing Doom since 1993, and I will continue to do so as long as I am able to use a mouse and keyboard. Even after my death, I expect my soul to go to Hell where I will continue blasting demons until the heat death of the universe. 1 Share this post Link to post
Doom-X-Machina Posted February 17 Quite the opposite... I get more interested over time as the engine further advances and the community keeps releasing jaw-dropping stuff. Hard to lose interest in something that keeps evolving and getting better all the time. 0 Share this post Link to post
Aaron Blain Posted February 17 Maybe this is a generational thing, but I think of videogames in the same way I do cards or pool. I think there are a lot of us who will be playing Doom like 80 year old folks now with dominoes or mah jongg. 2 Share this post Link to post
Rykzeon Posted February 17 I'm staying here because learning Quake mapping is kinda confusing. Plus I think its faster to mapping in Wolfenstein 3D or Doom to satisfy my mapping desire. 2 Share this post Link to post
Kokoro Hane Posted February 17 DOOM is one of those games I always come back to. There may be times I get tired of it and need a break, but it's a game I am fond of. One of the earliest video games I began playing and is among one of my treasured favorites. Plus it has such a lively and active community, there's always some form of new life breathed into it so it never gets stale. I think anyone who has placed DOOM as one of their favorites of all time will never get tired of it, even if they take a break from it, because it's a favorite for a reason. It may hold some special memories when it came out, it may have just been "the game" that hit all the sweet spots for that player that cannot be matched today. Whatever the reason, there's a reason the community is still alive and well today after all these years. 1 Share this post Link to post
quackbal Posted February 22 I've played it since around 1995 on and off. Never lost interest, always been a forum lurker here too :-). Good to see how busy the community still is and how much is going on! 1 Share this post Link to post
SealSpace Posted February 25 Maybe the franchise itself, only because I don't really get in touch with modern games and I don't have much access to any Doom after the first two classic games on the DOS. But not Doom mods themselves though. 0 Share this post Link to post
