is chillax the hardest wad out there?

Recommended Posts

I have played chillax map01 single player a bit and it was really hard, much harder than the hardest levels of sunlust; so I have been wondering if there is something harder than it?

Anyone can make an impossible or extreme TAS-only map. Make a giant room filled with a hundred cybies, put down a single berserk and there you have it. I find the question "what is the hardest humanly possible to complete wad?" far more interesting. IMO I would nominate for that award the likes of Dimensions and Okuplok (has been completed on ITYTD!).

We can even narrow it down to "what's the hardest fun wad that's humanly possible" because why would you you shotgun many cybies to death if it's just for the sake of the challenge

Hardly when Sunder and Okuplok exist.

But gotta admit, Chillax isn't Relax. However a good slaughtermap is all about setting up fights that require a strategist to conquer and not so much like creating a giant hall and just dumping big boys in them.

This is something a lot of non-slaughtermap players fail to realize, and what makes overcoming such thought out challenges so addicting imo.

Dimensions

New Sunder

Dance On The Water

These are the hardest mapsets considered humanly possible that I know of. May not be reasonable to uvmax the hardest maps of each but most certainly possible for a human to do.

Sunder. The later maps take hours and are barely possible single segment.

i wish people would just forget that chillax even exists, and i wish that it wasn't counted among actually well-made challenge wads whatsoever. it's a shitty wad full of plagiarized maps that adds fuckloads of monsters with little regard to balancing or encounter design. it's lazy, obnoxious, and honestly really stupid.

still better than chillax, at least you yourself made the room lol

There are a lot of hard wads out there,

If you want WADS that are tas only, then you can choose tarachillax, it has a lot of insane encounters and is physically impossible to beat by a human, I don't know if map 1 is possible without the use of tas, but I haven't seen anyone do it yet.

If you want wads that are really really hard but humanly possible, there is sunder, okuplok, toilet of the gods, unhallowed, dimensions, chillax, Just like cutman 999 said, chillax isn't a tas only wad, some maps are possible to beat without the use of tas, for example map 13.

Some wads that aren't really hard but will you give a challenge include, Scythe 2, Valiant, Ancient Aliens, Stardate 20X6, Stardate 20x7, and the list goes on..

@Betelgeuse Scythe II's last five maps are actually very hard, the hardest I've personally played, so I would reconsider "aren't very hard" on that one. Also Sunlust is no slouch and should be included in some form considering it literally has Ribbiks.

Chillax is very fun in coop with the right gameplay mods. A few of the maps are kinda meh, but have some kind of interesting gimmick.

For single player consider mods like Russian Overkill, Trailblazer, Guncaster etc. You know, the ones that make the player OP AF.

As for the topic, most of the harder wads I've played were joke wads, so nothing worth mentioning comes to mind.

Wow.wad is much harder than all of the wads mentioned, as it's unbeatable.

True, but I was talking about Scythe 2 in general, I didn't focus on specific maps.

Yeah, impossible levels are are trivial to create. Easy levels are more difficult, as they at least require a win condition. The real challenge lies in making a satisfying challenge. It's no coincidence that several of the WADs mentioned in this topic are considered to be among the best WADs in general.

This is something I was thinking about when I saw that somebody had single-segmented Okuplok, which is insane, merciless, and an absolute grind from the moment you step through the teleporter but which has enough health and ammo to make it, at least theoretically, beatable in one go; and after playing a fairly bog-standard “I made the hardest map ever” map where the player has to beat 70000 monsters or something with no weapons or health whatsoever where the win condition is nearly impossible to see even with TAS to make the RNG as friendly as possible.

There’s a difference, I guess, between a map that is crafted to be a nightmarish ordeal for only the most dedicated/masochistic, versus haw-haw monster spam. I agree the latter aren’t worth talking about in these discussions because no way were they ever actually meant to be played for more than 5 minutes before you roll your eyes and delete the file forever.

...you're seriously saying that the stardate series isn't hard? and including it alongside skillsaw wads??? what

Stardate 20X7 is meant to be played on Hurt me plenty, while Ultra-Violence is an option for very skilled players.

Other Skillsaw wads are not that hard, only the last levels are a bit difficult.

I has completely unaware that some of Chillax's offerings can indeed be completed by humans, sorry for the mistake.

As someone whose played Chillax I can assure you. MAP 01 is like a walk in the park compared to some late maps. But if you're curious if it's the hardest, I'm going to vote Okuplok simply because it's INSANE what the player must do to complete some of the later segments. Only ONCE have I beaten it and I used a mod to assist me (Master Of Puppets ftw!).

The question that always bothered me with Chillax is: Is Chillax considered impossible to beat even with saves? (excepting maps beaten in single segment) Tell me if I’m wrong, but every time someone discuss the possibility to beat a map, it’s always with single segment in mind. That made me wonder if some (if not all) maps were actually possible if you would simply save after each fights or major achievements (arch-vile jump, successful platforming, avoiding a trigger line, getting pass a section without waking up teleporting monsters, etc.) instead of doing TAS because nobody care about anything but single segment stuff.

If someone could tell me, without lying, that Chillax is obviously possible with saves and that people had found strategies for each levels 15 years ago, that would be really nice, because my autistic brain refuse to let this plagiarized mess of a WAD alone until it find out if any of the levels are, even theoretically, impossible...

(for anyone that care: I was able to beat map 01 – 02 – 22 – 37, I save-scummed map 14 because revenants refusing to get stunlock by the chainsaw was a PAIN, I don’t fully remember if I have beaten map 19 – 39 – 45 (been a while and my memory is shit) and I completed map 18 – 23 – 25 – 35 – 40 – 42 in godmode with not too much obvious deaths if any (AKA: theoretically possible))

Chillax is impossible to beat because by the time you get good enough to beat it, you realize that you've got better things to do than place a plagiarized monster spam WAD on a pedestal because someone said it's the "hardest wad."

Okuplok, Sunlust and Sunder's later maps are all harder than Chillax.

Not sure but I saw somewhere that it was actually made for coop play, like 4 players on Zandronum. I played it coop on Zandronum, back on those early days around 2016 maybe and it was kinda fun.
