RichardDS90 Posted July 18 (edited) 20 years ago, Community Chest 2 was released and graced the community with various interesting maps. Whether it was the strange Mucus Flow, the trolling No Room, the exploration side of City Heat or even some of Gene Bird's maps that stood out to you, most can agree, that CC2 was quite a WAD. So what does CC2 Remix do? Well, Remix changes up some of the level order so they're sorted by theme and difficulty, replaces the weaker filler maps with some of the maps from the first Community Chest. Now that could be it and just be a simple level arrangement WAD, but no, I did more. Some maps were given bug fixes courtesy of Doomwiki, some maps were given better balance so it's less tedious in some cases, biggest example being Elixir. Some maps even has more polish and one map even has more detail. Another feature is the UMAPINFO, that's right, I can do some more flexible things with it, like enterpic and exitpic, even different music per text screen and no secret exit in a secret level, I have broken that tradition, and there are three secret maps to find, all in different parts of the WAD. There's even the occasional bossaction like you would expect in specific maps, and of course, they do vary in what's done. I done this as a labour of love as I've been a fan of the Community Chests for quite a long time. And I hope it delivers. If there are any issues or suggestions, let me know and I'll sort it. RichardDS90 Posted August 9 Hiya, given Doom 1 + 2's recent mod compatibility on consoles san the Switch, I have uploaded CC2 Remix onto the mods section so it should work. I did test the bossactions established in the UMAPINFO and all is well. So yeah, now the difficulty of Mucus Flow can now be reached to a fairly wider audience. Enjoy! 2 Share this post Link to post
RichardDS90 Posted August 18 CC2 Remix is now on idgames! But now, I have had thoughts, I really would love to have made more use of the bossaction in the UMAPINFO, I actually thought about it a lot during it's development, but there is a very good reason I didn't for certain enemies...gameplay mod compatibility, because they very likely will remove the bossdeath trigger on various enemies, it will break CC2Remix. So I have been thinking, should I make one that uses Dehacked to have bossactions to various enemies that never had the bossdeath action? Whereas some could replace unused things such as the dead lost soul with say, another Baron Of Hell but will have a different bossdeath effect to seperate it from another set of Barons for example, kind of like what Legacy Of Rust did with the different Tyrants on E2M7. So kind of the direction Skillsaw took with Valiant and it's Vaccinated Edition counterpart, but swapped around. Is it something that is worth doing and would be enjoyed? 0 Share this post Link to post
EffinghamHuffnagel Posted September 26 Just started this. You can't legally access the secret MAP33 from MAP08. The exit sign 'step' that's supposed to rise has sector tag 128. There is no linedef tag 128 in the map. 0 Share this post Link to post

I think these are very close to my personal ideal Doom experience. The maps are a good reasonable difficulty too, and avoids the repetitive "revenants, chaingunners, and archies" traps that so many people overuse. I particularly appreciated the trap with cacodemons and lost souls, as it felt original and unexpected. 1 Share this post Link to post
