What are your hopes/expectations on the new Doom The Dark Ages Soundtrack that's not being composed by The Legendary Mick Gordon?

Recommended Posts

So far, as of right now, we have no idea who is behind the soundtrack for the next doom game The Dark Ages. Both David Levy and Andrew are out of the picture it seems, as they have both confirmed that they have no involvement on The Dark Ages soundtrack as of late (with Andrew Hulshult's reassuring us that he will still continue to work with ID down the line based on his recent tweet regarding the situation). Which now leaves us questioning more about the soundtrack..

Based on what I and presumably all of us heard from The Dark Ages trailer, The unidentified track playing in the background is definitely not Mick's work. Which was to be expected due to the tragic falling out ID and Mick had. It's a shame what happened bts with the doom eternal soundtrack and I really wish things could've wen't differently. But well, shit happens. And moving forward, its clear how Mick's absence felt right along the Trailer for TDA's. Don't get me wrong, I think (whoever is doing the soundtrack for this game) did a good enough job at having the soundtrack complement the look and feel of the game. But it's definitely a far cry from the likes of BFG Division, TOTTFIY, Rip & Tear, or Hell even David Levy's work on Immora from tag 2 (seriously he was the perfect replacement for Mick I feel. Why didn't they rehire his role for TDA's idk..).

My expectations for the soundtrack are very moderate to say the least. I truly think ID screwed up hard with having Mick Gordon absent on the new doom game. But I'm willing to give this new composer a chance. It may be good, it may be mid, or just whatever. But whatever the case may be, it has MASSIVE shoe's to fill on eternal's soundtrack. Which personally, I feel would be insanely difficult to be on Mick's level.

But maybe i'm wrong on this, I'd like to know what you guy's think about doom without Mick moving forward.

My hope is that Kevin Schilder does the music. My expectation is that he doesn't.

Frankly, I don't care, so long as the new composer doesn't try to parrot Mick.

Sure, his work on 2016 and Eternal fit the game super well, but the less the reboot franchise is chained to him and his style the better, and I'd rather whoever the new composer is actually be able to flex their compositional muscles in their own way.

They’ll either go for a completely different sound- which I think they should.
Or

I think we will end up with a diet version of Mick Gordon

Small hope for Mick Gordon but we know it will not happen.  Andrew and David did a respectable job, but they are not in the same league as Mick.

The so-called "argent metal" was very popular for a while and was even a kind of meme.

And I wouldn’t be surprised if the developers want to repeat this success by taking on the role of composer someone who will copy Mick Gordon (which will be very lazy).

I'm hoping to hear something new, but overall, I'll be open to listening to any soundtrack. I know it will be good

I feel that the style of music from Mick doesn't really fit with the theme of the dark ages, even I say their Wolfenstein ost fill more for this game that is on eternal or 2016.

Hopefully we get some power and folk metal

They should go for an actual doom metal soundtrack, lol. I know Doom is all about speed and doom metal is all about slowness but maybe with the "monstertruck" gameplay it could work.

I Hope they Give Andrew Hulshult the torch.

The Dark Ages is set in VERY ancient times. After listening to IDKFA I reckon he could craft some very powerful metal to ride alongside the imagery.

He has already confirmed he is NOT working on TDA.

I think the best we can hope for is that they go with a new composer who makes a new sound, not an imitation of the previous sounds. Mick Gordon didn't try to imitate Bobby Prince (or Chris Vienna, for the two people out there who remember Doom 3), and that was a big success. So a repeat of that would be a composer who doesn't try to imitate Mick Gordon or any other previous Doom composer.

I’d say it might be Andrew Hulshult and David Levy like The Ancient Gods but there’s a higher likelihood they probably got someone who hasn’t worked on a DOOM game before like Mick Gordon with 2016. the trailer music sounded markedly different from anything in the first two games

detuned brass and stompy medieval fantasy orchestral as if designed for a warhammer-related diablo 2 clone

a music imp going like Cm to Abm in sibelius

that's my finger in the wind honestly

Wouldn't be surprised if the trailer music was from some random third-party instead. That's what they did with 2016's launch trailer and Eternal's glory kill trailer.
