Meerschweinmann Posted August 9 (edited) I have bought the GOG release and played it for some hours. The Performance of this port is really very good. Playing on a 5120x1440 monitor and the framerate is really good. A really solid performance and plays very well. The new episode makes a very robust impression to me. I like it. And the use of all those beta textures and sprites fits very well in an official release. The ID vault is very informative and nice to see and read. Unfortunately i was not able to connect to Bethesda.net to look for mods, but i will retry later. And the music... Andrew Hulshult's IDKFA soundtrack for DOOM is my favorite. Before this new official release there were some DOOM2 tracks from him at YouTube and i was waiting and hoping he finishes the DOOM 2 soundtrack. And now he did it, yeah! Those older DOOM2 songs from him at YouTube could have been included as variants for those songs which are used with multiple maps, but that is not hard to create a PWAD with Slade3. All in all this new official release is a very well collection of the worlds best game. Really good work! Edited August 9 by Meerschweinmann 0 Share this post Link to post
Dylan Jarvis Posted August 9 Really excited about this! Everything is just ready to play right there wow! Master Levels all compiled too without jumping through hoops. Really cool. New Episode looks really good so far as well, love the chairs. 1 Share this post Link to post
Duffking Posted August 9 The mod browser is going to need some serious extras in the filtering department, I think. It's already becoming rather unfriendly to look through. 5 Share this post Link to post
Rampy470 Posted August 9 Ooh something cool: in Common.kpf\vault\sounds\pre-beta\, the DEATH1.WAV is the death scream but extended with an extra bit of a guy at the beginning screaming "no!". So wherever it's from, it's not the Sound Ideas sound that Decino speculated it could be in this video. Maybe it was just Bobby screaming this entire time. 2 Share this post Link to post
JXC Posted August 9 So only the new weapons and not monsters are using DEHACKED? 0 Share this post Link to post

Also FLSHRP.WAV is an unedited version of the DSSLOP gore sound. Sounds like someone making noises with a straw or a wet plastic bag or something. Another mystery (sort of) solved perhaps? 0 Share this post Link to post
scalliano Posted August 9 For years I have wanted a new official episode with new enemies and weapons. My prayers have finally been answered. Can't wait to get wired into this later on. 3 Share this post Link to post
TheShep Posted August 9 8 hours ago, Antroid said: Yeah, I just tried it and the input delay by default is horrendous. It's like half a second at least and feels more sluggish than SNES doom. HOWEVER! If I turn off Vertical Sync, it fixes itself and becomes fully playable and normal. yep turning vsync off made it play like trusty ol DSDA again haha! 0 Share this post Link to post
VentoliN13 Posted August 9 (edited) Anyone else having problems with every mod you've downloaded already. Start re-installing itself and then locking you in the mod/play menu with no escape except to close the application? 😓 0 Share this post Link to post
Edward850 Posted August 9 5 hours ago, Duffking said: @Edward850 is the presence of a choice between D3D/Vulkan and Software an implication that this port is fully hardware rendered? If it is, is there a way to unlock the mouse currently and have freelook? It doesn't imply that at all, it's just different ways of getting the frame buffer to the screen. There is no hidden vertical look, that function straight up doesn't exist in Doom, and wouldn't be coherent to implement. 3 Share this post Link to post
AtimZarr1 Posted August 9 Regarding the masses of WADs posted, I think being able to filter by a minimum number of Likes would be nice, i.e. filter out anything below a set number like 5, 10, etc. Similarly, being able to follow certain uploaders to filter for their uploads specifically - that way people can follow more prolific mappers. 8 Share this post Link to post

I concur. I would also prefer for “subscribe” to be changed to “download” and you could still have a subscribe button to follow an uploader’s output for future use etc. I was initially stumped by the lack of a download button for mods. 6 Share this post Link to post

I can set it to 0 and it's still going. Yes, I can change volume in game, it has to be 20% or less to be back to "normal" but I've essentially lost Windows' audio control. yeah same here, it raped my ears initially... win11 x64 laptop, intel-based, realtek audio, bt5 earbuds Edited August 9 by liPillON 1 Share this post Link to post
Midway64 Posted August 9 (edited) @Doomkid Are you by any chance "Doomkid92" on the WAD releases? If so, awesome! and I'll get to downloading your stuff immediately. 1 Share this post Link to post
scalliano Posted August 9 First map of LoR down, and I need to say something. I was once told on these very boards that id would never try to out-ZDoom ZDoom. What a difference a decade makes. 5 Share this post Link to post
skillsaw Posted August 9 I'm a bit out of the loop -- is anyone allowed to upload any wad to the official port now? I see Ancient Aliens in the screenshot a couple posts above but I didn't upload or go through any approval process. Can I be sure the file hasn't been tampered with? It has my real name attached to it and I'm not happy to see it up there, possibly modified with who knows what. 51 Share this post Link to post
Kroc Posted August 9 (edited) It's a free-for-all. Anybody can upload any WAD file and there's no approval process, no way to correct who owns what, deduplicate or anything other than to report WADs you find. It's insane they launched this in the current form. Possibly even a lawsuit waiting to happen (I don't think that would actually happen, just that this system makes such a thing *possible*) -- How did Nintendo let this pass approval!? "So yeah, we have this feature where people can upload *literally anything* and it's immediately accessible to every Switch user in the world". Think Terrywads, but copyright infringement, gore, CSA imagery, you name it. 16 Share this post Link to post

Anyone is allowed to upload any wad to the mod browser, there's been multiple uploads of ancient aliens and valiant. Id recommend you report those reuploads if you have DOOM + DOOM II. 1 Share this post Link to post
Wadmodder Shalton Posted August 9 2 hours ago, Maximum Matt said: But are they releasing Maximum Doom, tho? Probably not, because that was id Software's answer to the shovelware compilations D!ZONE and Demon Gate, and like most of those addon discs they sometimes never included the text files to credit the authors of the 90s. 2 Share this post Link to post
Nixx Posted August 9 There seems to be a strange effect when I try to apply the vanilla COMPLVL lump on my limit-removing wad (Flesharmonic), here are the lump + console outputs (D_RegisterGameSim: Applying XXXXX compatibility) in the different cases: - Without lump: Boom - vanilla: Boom - mbf21: MBF21 - boom: -complevel 9 The most disturbing thing is that vanilla does not work 0 Share this post Link to post

Ever since the doors opened on the new release (literally a day ago), a massive wave of WADs have been uploaded on the servers, including commercial stuff like TCs and unauthorized uploads of known MegaWADs. You can report this type of stuff in the meanwhile, not sure how long it will take to, but it's our best course of action for now. 3 Share this post Link to post
anotak Posted August 9 (edited) so is the explanation for the GPL stuff "we reimplemented it ourselves without using the GPL code"? reading the early part of the thread, that's all a bit unclear to me 1 Share this post Link to post

The real hope that I have is that, however unlikely it is, they implement an idgames browser in the future instead, because that way at least wad ownership is verified. I like how open the new port is with allowing people to play any wad they want, but the current upload system is a mess for obvious reasons that we're watching unfold in real time. 11 Share this post Link to post
NightFright Posted August 9 So, to sum it up... - Before: One curated PWAD from id every couple of months - Now: Hundreds of PWADs uploaded by anyone on a daily basis Am I getting that right? xD 2 Share this post Link to post
Midway64 Posted August 9 Pretty much. And a lot of unauthorized stuff, including commercial stuff. 1 Share this post Link to post
Wadmodder Shalton Posted August 9 Sucks that the iOS and Android versions didn't get the update, since the KEX Engine doesn't have native port for either mobile OS. 0 Share this post Link to post
