They didn't actually - according to the release note FAQ on the Slayer Club's website, Switch users can only access featured mods and not browsing.

The current way user-submitted PWADs are implemented will require heavy moderation. I really hope the studio is up to the task cuz if word gets out that they don't moderate this thing, there's gonna be all kinds of insane exploitation.

What about the addons that had been previously curated under Unity? I mean, they should still work, even if each of them contains all the IWAD assets (which was a stupid requirement TBH), but I guess those kind of releases won't happen any more?

From what I understood they hired some people and such people re-implemented everything from scratch for the Kex engine.

Which makes sense.

There's a section in the mod menu called featured mods which display all the curated / ID approved wads, they'll probably continue this practice but with the mods under the featured section now.

While technically the users aren't prevented from uploading any wads they choose, anyone uploading wads they don't own are breaking the code of conduct which they had to agree to prior to using the game/software.

From the Zenimax Code of Conduct:

Names or material protected by copyright, trademark or other intellectual property rights cannot be used at any time except by the rightsholder. So should be fine to report them.

Seems like line action 24 - G1 Floor Raise to Lowest Ceiling is acting as a GR action in the new port. Sorry if this was already mentioned but the thread is long. Looking forward to trying the new maps.

I've read the whole thread but didn't see the answer or maybe missed it, so: is this update available for people who own Doom 1/2 via Doom 3: BFG edition?

The browser could do with a looking at at some point. 
If you click on a WAD to take a look and then go back it throws you back to the first page again. 
Not the end of the world but slightly annoying.

The update is available for people who owned the Bethesda port of DOOM 1993.

i think it's really cool that games can be officially expanded decades after completion

and i wanna congratulate everyone who worked on the stuff!!!

 

i also have some opinions on how the official mods and the insane upload tab creates two tiers of what's canon and what's nerd stuff but i can't be bothered to explain them right now

If anything, I think the system should have a way of identifying and blocking commercial stuff (like Hexen and REKKR: Sunken Land) and wads that can't work on the port at all. And ideally, there should be some kind of curator program so mappers can upload and manage their wads themselves. As well as something to reduce duplicates, in case two different people upload the same thing.

Why wasn't the wad just linked to the idgames archive? Pardon my words, but this looks like a fucking mess, a complete dumpster fire. It doesn't make a lot of sense the way it was implemented. Even multiplayer source ports have some form of lookup tool in order to not mess things up.

This new port is fantastic overall. I love it. The only issues I've experienced on my end:

- Movement does feel a bit floaty though and mouse feels a bit off, as some others have mentioned. 

- The 'Tetanus' and 'Scientist' addons need to be added to the Featured Mods section. Seems they were forgotten about.

- I agree with everyone else saying that it's a very bad idea to allow people to upload mods/WADS to the mods list. I think the previous method works best (curated mods/WADS selected by id Software). This current mod list is going to be pure chaos and anarchy within weeks otherwise.

 

Aside from these minor gripes, I'm very happy with this new port. Awesome.

For the floaty feeling and get rid of mouse input lag and/or framepacing issues, the easiest fix for most people is to disable the framecap with cl_engineFPS -1 and disable v-sync (either via the menu or with v_vsync 0 followed by restart).

It's the exact same system as that used for Skyrim and Fallout 4, both of which have settled into boring, moderated sanity after a rough opening week or so despite those modding scenes being both larger and more, shall we say, feral. That's how it got approved, and that's what will happen. This too shall pass.

This is weird... I was playing the wad 'Overboard', by Mouldy, when I suddenly ran into a weird glitch and got trapped in this room while playing the first map. This bug only shows up in the Bethesda port.

Yeah the PWAD upload tab will become more manageable when bad actors lose interest. It's gonna be real bad for a couple weeks but with enough moderation it should settle into something halfway usable.

Haven't bought any of the re-re-re-rereleases of anything Doom yet, looks like the time might be now!

There's one thing I wonder about though - is it in any way better to purchase the game from GOG instead of Steam or vice versa? I hardly ever buy games anymore, so I'm totally out of the loop on advantages/disadvantages with different providers.

Though for these the process is a tad more involved than just uploading a wad from the game itself.

Looks like for the time being at least, might be easier to use the Bethesda website to browse the mods: https://mods.bethesda.net/en/doom_doomii/all

If you log in to the website, you can also subscribe to the mods from there, so it's not necessary to use the in-game mod browser at all.

So what's the method for getting MIDI packs to work? I downloaded the Plutonia pack from the mod downloader there, but it just kicks you into the original Doom when you activate it. I don't see anything for setting the IWAD in the json. I saw there was a GAMEINFO lump in the Sigil 2 WAD which specified the IWAD, tried adding that and replacing doom.wad with plutonia.wad, but still no dice.

 

Also it seems to be activating the mic on my bluetooth headphones regardless of whether I have the microphone enabled in the settings and regardless of the default mic on my system. The sample rate of the audio gets absolutely destroyed when the mic gets enabled on my headphones.

The idea behind anyone uploading any wad is sound but people are just treating it like it is instagram and rushing to upload any megawad to farm those all important download/like stats as if they've ever helped with the wad development.
