Classic Doom - New Update on Steam

The idea behind anyone uploading any wad is sound but people are just treating it like it is instagram and rushing to upload any megawad to farm those all important download/like stats as if they've ever helped with the wad development.

I think part of the problem is that adding custom wads to play locally isn't all that easy.

But if you upload the wad, it's actually relatively easy (no folder editing or console commands) *and* cloud saves remember your choices so you can retrieve them on another system instead of having to find and select them all again.

So even if you manually add them, the UX is better to upload.

My suggestion would be an offline "install wad" option maybe to just add it to your game seamlessly without needing file edits or console commands.

Yeah. I was disappointed by the lack of cheats on the rerelease. Could NightDive provide an update to reimplement them in a future update? Also activating those cheats will disable achievements/trophies.

So you cant use cheats on console at all? what a finished product.

Real boomer doomers don't use cheats.

What's the error? We were hitting an issue with ours on a few maps where ZNodes weren't supported and had to use the DeepBSP nodebuilder to retain functionality, upload worked after that.

So uhhh, the game seems to have a memory leak or something. I'd left it running on the demo reel for Doom 2 for a while and when I came back, it was using upwards of 70% of my system's RAM. (I have 32GB)

I feel there are still a lot of bugs on this port that need to be fixed! Off subject , you an MLP fan?

Cheats are still nice tho. Hope they bring them to the port , there's still a lot of patching up to do on this new release of the game. Can't play any PWADS coop! And one of the greatest PWADS of all time (Doom Zero's) Skies have been messed up because of an unresolved error of this port.

I know most of the posts in here are about the wad uploading and so on, but the sound is fundamentally broken. I've just been playing Doom 2 and the Focus has those shutter windows that go up and down - they are silent 80% of the time. That's ridiculous.

Gun shots are missing occasionally too.

is there somewhere they've accidentally triggered only 4 concurrent sounds ?? 🤣

I'd much rather they fix the basics before the uploading mods thing tbh!!!

Want to get this figured out stat! I think this port will certainly help get peoples wads recognized. It will be better when and if they fix all the errors that are deeply embedded within it.

You can use cheats. Just plug in a keyboard to your console and type idclip etc

I've noticed sounds can be overridden quite easily on this port. The secret notification was cut off when I grabbed a box of ammo. Again just one of the many other things that needs to be fixed on this port.

On a somewhat related note; more cheats being added would be awesome. I would absolutely love an infinite ammo cheat at some point!

That's primarily a GZDOOM feature. Sadly I doubt features like that will ever be added :\

Having to plug a keyboard into your console just to use something simple like cheats is ridiculous, especially when you consider the fact that a lot of console players don't have access to a pc.

I’m just gonna grab a cheap usb keyboard from Walmart. I needed one for other Xbox games anyway.  Wireless probably

Though for these the process is a tad more involved than just uploading a wad from the game itself.

Can you explain the difference for the class?

The Unity Dooms had them in the options section from the getgo or was it later added via a patch back then? Dunno.

If the cheats does exist in the console versions of Doom + Doom II. How do you activate them with a Xbox/Playstation/Switch controller?

My playthrough of legacy of rust is really soured by this source port's frequent crashes, has anyone tested the wad out on DSDA-doom?

There's a memory leak.

Just a minor suggestion: add nojump to the WAD for those playing through GZDoom

Yes I've just noticed that hitting switches doesn't always make a sound either.

This issue has now overtaken the lack of a proper full screen HUD as the most important for me....

As far as I know you can’t currently. Which is why I just ordered a wireless keyboard online

I just want to say first I really appreciate this new port. Never thought I'd be able to play Scythe II on Playstation. Still, I'd like to list a few issues I've noticed. Some people may have already posted a few of em.

-Scientist and Tetanus are missing from the official add-ons. Hopefully they bring em back soon.

-You are unable to play local co-op or online coop with any of the WADS outside of the main ones bundled with the game. With the unity port I was able to play BTSX offline 2 player which cannot seem to be done here.

-Multiplayer deathmatch maps are extremely limited. For some reason you cannot choose any map from any of the wads to play on, unlike in the XBLA ports of Doom 1 and 2 where I would frequently play on maps such as E4M3 or even from No Rest for the Living.

- Input lag seems to be an issue on Playstation, I'm playing on ps5 for reference. The unity port had this issue for a while too but they added the ability to disable v-sync which completely fixed the issue. I don't see the same option to disable it here however.

-The cheats menu is gone

Also some WADS uploaded just straight up don't work on playstation like MYHOUSE or Hexen. But that's not an issue with the port itself.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet but, on my laptop the guitars for E1M1 sound very loud with the GUS softsynth. It almost sounds like the audio is clipping.

I know this has been asked before but I never saw an answer - is there a way to bind turning to the arrow keys? I don’t usually play with a mouse.

I realize that puts me in a tiny tiny subset of players and that it isn’t priority, just curious if the functionality exists.

Massive thanks to everyone involved - this port is mind blowing and I’m frankly overwhelmed. So much incredible content!
