Eevee Posted August 19 (edited) https://c.eev.ee/doom-text-generator/ this is my doom text generator. it generates doom text, as you might expect. in a web browser! science is amazing. i don't think i had a doomworld account last time i updated it, but now i do, so here is a post. i'm putting this in Resources because its primary purpose is to turn resources (fonts) into more resources (images). i do encourage replying to this thread with doom text but ONLY if it's funny source code on github it generates doom text. i really can't stress this enough bunch of fonts, or load your own from a wad, such as valiant.wad, or... um... valiant.wad recolor text with zdoom's font translation algorithm, including defining your own gradient if graphic design is your passion if you know what kerning is you can change that you can generate a bunch of CWILVs at once by slapping in all your level names (one per line) and hitting "bulk download". probably set "escapees" to "shrink to fit" to reduce unnecessary vertical space it might even work on a phone? (newest first) 2024-08-27: taught the "randomize" button to make random custom gradients too fixed a couple bugs in WAD parsing because apparently i broke everything when i did unicode fonts and somehow didn't notice 2024-08-25: fixed word wrap added support for loading unicode fonts in a filter directory fixed loading unicode fonts made out of doom graphics fixed a bug where text containing empty lines would sometimes produce an empty image 2024-08-22: restored BIGFONT fixed the space width for BIGFONT and BIGUPPER. it's been one pixel too narrow this whole time. everyone's level names are wrong argh!! fixed two microscopic UI bugs you probably never noticed 2024-08-20 B: added support for gzdoom's "unicode fonts" added a twiddle for handling the height of a line added a bulk download button fixed freedoom's license taught custom lump-based fonts to correctly scan their lightness range fixed positioning of glyphs that escape above the top of the line fixed the scrolling so tall text can't vanish off the top of the screen 2024-08-20: added the hacx, freedoom, and chex quest bigfonts added just a truly fucking ridiculous number of jimmy fonts rewrote my lump montager thing to require vastly less manual effort to add a new "bunch of lumps" font added a little info button next to each font so you know where it came from and that you technically shouldn't be using it (spoilers it's mostly id or jimmy) added support for "bunch of lumps" fonts in PK3s added support for "bunch of lumps" fonts where the lumps are PNGs "bunch of lumps" fonts now actually use the lumps' sprite offsets haha whoops!! the doom 2 palette was a bit fucked up but now it's not 2024-08-18: half a dozen new fonts, courtesy of james paddock. more coming... later? soon? sometime. there is effort involved you can load whatever doom fonts your heart desires from a WAD or PK3... maybe. there are a lot of font formats, some don't work yet you may now define a custom color translation, thanks to the laziest gradient editor you have ever seen in your life you can add padding to the final image directly fixed some cases where word wrap didn't work so good and could leave extraneous space at the end of a line or cut off a character less clutter — fonts are now just, you know, named in their font there's a favicon now! that's cool. i kept losing my tab Edited August 28 by Eevee : update 2024-08-27 130 Share this post Link to post

Thank you so much Eevee. 0 Share this post Link to post

Thank you so much Eevee. hope it's useful! the previous approach of "DM me asking me to add your particular font, which i then forget to do" was not really sustainable 6 Share this post Link to post
Devalaous Posted August 19 Ive been using this tool a LOT for my patches (Seriously, ive generated HUNDREDS of CWILVs and M_EPI lumps for older works). Nice to see a thread for it! 6 Share this post Link to post

Spoiler Thank you for carrying all of us in your back all of these years. 1 Share this post Link to post
LouigiVerona Posted August 19 @Eevee And could you talk about how the Doom Text Generator works? Are you using ttf files or bitmaps? As a web dev myself, I'm curious how you made it look so seamless! 1 Share this post Link to post
Matthias Posted August 19 Well, 90 % of my graphic designs for my project is using this tool, lol 1 Share this post Link to post
smeghammer Posted August 19 This is neat! Do you have a source for the fonts you have used? I have some TTF ones listed/downloadable here, but it would be cool to also use the Heretic etc. ones. 1 Share this post Link to post
DoomGappy Posted August 19 Pretty good tool, I've used it before to estimate intermission text lengths and also for CWILV graphics. Thanks a lot! 10 Share this post Link to post
