SupremeBioVizier Posted August 30 NOPE There's always one out cast though per project that says 😎 then the world goes on just the same. 0 Share this post Link to post
KenaiPhoenix Posted August 30 ngl, this was one thing that put me off when I was modding when I was a kid in the 2000s. I constantly though "Why should I put all my effort if no one will see it?" Â the answer to that, imo, is that is not necessary. Modding is power by only passion, sometimes to share to your friends, sometimes to post and got no one to play it. regardless you will gain experience, you will get better and best stuff will come out. You will also get ambitious and your project will come in better shape and be bigger thanks to you hard earned experience. It is like digital artists/web comic authors: you always start displaying your stuff to no one, until you produce that piece of work that helps you do the jump. Â How not to lose your motivation? Because is fun. That what all people that work in these stuff do it stuff: they enjoy it. So keep working on it 5 Share this post Link to post
Kor Posted September 4 (edited) My lowest quality wad, at least as I feel, is The Invasion. That's not to say it's horrible, but my skills in level making did improve. Anyway, ironically, that's the one that has gotten the most attention (On Doomworld's beta download area, it has like three times as many downloads as anything else I've done). When I released it in the 90s, I got all kinds of positive feedback on it. But as my work improved in quality, I got less feedback. The article on Invasion on Doomwiki says it has a unique atmosphere, which may be why it got so much attention compared to my other stuff. While I appreciate that, I wish my later work got more attention. Edited September 5 by Kor 4 Share this post Link to post

Brad_tilf Posted September 4 I mean, you have to. If you haven't played the map all the way through how are you going to know if something isn't working or if you might see something that on 2nd thought you might want to change. I play all my maps through multiple times in multiple ports so that I know it's doing and looking exactly as I intended it to in those various ports. 0 Share this post Link to post
MannerKing Posted September 5 Some people play my wads, not a lot of people mind you, but honestly even if just one dude or chick plays my wads I'm a happy man. I'm sure there are things I could do to get my wads some more attention. I don't really participate in the doom community all that often and I don't really post on the forums that much either. I'm sure if I was more of an active participant in the community then my name would get around more and my wads would probably get more eyes on them. Â If I made my wads co-op compatible as well then more people could/would play them. I even considered going back to F.O.B and making some changes to make it co-op. At some point I'd like to participate in a community project and make some maps. All in all though I'm content with being a little guy. As long as someone enjoys my work that's all I care about. Cutman 999 Posted September 5 Maybe, certainly not, but I like to feel they do... 2 Share this post Link to post
thiccyosh Posted September 5 It's very tempting to make a "Wait, people play my maps"-comment, but I actually read every single bit of feedback I can find, at least on maps that have been released and aren't buried beneath obscure links and sites. And it does give me a smile whenever someone says something nice about it :)In case anyone ever played something made by me: Thank you! <3 4 Share this post Link to post
loosegoose Posted September 6 I know that I've had people play the maps I've put out. (All two maps at this point, although I have one to upload that I did as part of a uni course, and may be working another mapping project at the moment. I swear I'm not procrastinating, I'm just waiting for the zdoom forums to stop 502'ing so I can read the ACS reference.)  I'll echo the sentiments that a lot of others have said earlier in the thread, but if just one person is entertained by something I've made then I've succeeded in what I'm doing. I just assume I'm making something weird and niche, and if people are along for the ride, fantastic. If not, I'm not going to lose too much sleep over it. I'm just happy to have a place to share the things I create, even if no-one looks at it.  I say this as someone who released a somewhat bleak, surreal, somewhat mindbending map in the same week as myhouse.wad. Sure, I could get mad that I got somewhat overshadowed, but there's no way to know that I would have even got the extra attention if myhouse didn't drop. There's a quote from Max Payne that always comes to mind:  Quote Vlad was right. There are no choices. Nothing but a straight line. The illusion comes afterwards, when you ask ‘why me?’ and ‘what if?’ when you look back, see the branches, like a pruned bonsai tree or a forked lightning. If you had done something differently, it wouldn’t be you, it would be someone else asking a different set of questions.  Besides, how the hell could I get mad at getting overshadowed by MyHouse? It's a fucking masterpiece.  I've wandered off topic long enough that I can access the ACS reference. It's back to the UDB mines for me. 1 Share this post Link to post
Logamuffin Posted September 6 A handful I suppose. A good amount of people played my Archvile Town map from a while back (for a Doom map at least :P). I remember being in a Discord call with someone on the Entryway server and someone saying something like "Oh, you made Archvile Town? I remember playing that map with my little brother and we both loved it", which was heartwarming and cool to hear. Other than that, a large majority of my wads (Man Will Spacewalk, Crucifix Canyon, Metamorphosis) haven't been played all that much, and I haven't released much in the grand scheme of things. Â I'm fine with not a lot of people playing my maps. I love mapping, it makes me happy. Getting people to play is just a bonus :) 1 Share this post Link to post
Brad_tilf Posted September 6 Misread the title initially. Yes, people do play them. For many of them I have counters on the pages they reside on on Doom Wad Station. For instance - Blood Works (https://www.doomwadstation.net/bloodworks/bloodworks.html) more than 3000 downloads. Mitnal (https://www.doomwadstation.net/mitnal/mitnal.html) more than 6400 downloads. And honestly, I enjoyed Bloodworks more. No Place to hide (https://doomwadstation.net/npth/) more than 3000 downloads as well. And that's just 3 of them. Benefits of having your own website I suppose where you can keep track of that stuff if you want. I didn't place a counter on Sawshank Lament (that was the last map I did a couple years ago I think it's been now. But yes, I know they get played 1 Share this post Link to post
scalliano Posted September 6 My one and only fully finished wad has a wiki page, so I can assume that at least one person other than myself has indeed played it. That's good enough for me. 2 Share this post Link to post
