Spectere Posted September 9 When I was young (around 1994/1995) I opted to pick a name that reflected my love of computing and Doom—most notably the blursphere/specter effect—so I picked "Digital Specter." I soon dropped the "Digital" part because it was kind of unwieldy. Some time later I tried to register an account for some online service (AIM, maybe? I don't remember for sure) and the name was already taken, so I opted for an amalgamation of the US and British spellings. I know that I've done all of my Quake deathmatching under this alias, so I've been using it since at least mid-1997. 2 Share this post Link to post
wumbo Posted September 9 that one episode in spongebob where they had the belt and patrick turned the 'm' on it upside-down and said "w is for wumbo" always stuck with me, i guess. 2 Share this post Link to post

Chookum Posted September 9 Back in the 90s and 00s there used to be a charcoal chicken place with the name - never ate there but the name amused me. It got replaced with a real estate agency when I wasn't looking, so heck upon them. 1 Share this post Link to post

RHhe82 Posted September 9 (edited) Back in the late 00s I went for a Russian language course for one semester, which was around the same time I was thinking of needing to come up with a new alias for Xbox live and/or PSN. So, I took my first name and transformed it into cyrillic alphabet and then converted it back to latin alphabet.. The numbers are my birth year. Simple as that. A shame that I've long regretted this alias, it's difficult to pronounce (unless you know the idea) and the origin story has been tarnished by subsequent events in the world. Not a week goes by that I'm thinking of changing it. (And the capital H is just an accident when I first created my DW account, but at first didn't change it because you couldn't do it in a year, and now I'm afraid to change it because of the same one year freezing period in case I come up with a better alias :D) 0 Share this post Link to post
NenapoMinayuChtchiyasya Posted September 9 (edited) My nickname was inspired by the famous chess player Ian Nepomniachtchi, mostly the ending. It's ironic that Ian's last name "Nepomniachtchi" is russian for "unremembering". I found it quite amusing. I have something similar, initially it was like it was "not memorable" - "nezapominayuchtchiyasya". But I wanted something more harmonious and they helped me choose "nenapominayuchtchiyasya". It is quite difficult to translate into any language, and means a person whom you kind of remember, but you remember poorly, and this person with his/her presence does not seem to try to remind you of himself/herself, although he/she could unconsciously remind you that he/she is kind of the person you knew, but this does not happen. Although I may be wrong, in general, if there are Russians in the forum, they can tell you more accurately, I believe. Edited September 9 by NenapoMinayuChtchiyasya 0 Share this post Link to post
NenapoMinayuChtchiyasya Posted September 9 I really love the Lord of the Rings, especially the first two parts. Once, for some unknown reason, I came across a book by Suorun Omollon (Siberian Yakut writer), I liked his name so much, as if he were another unknown magician from the universe of the Lord of the Rings. Unfortunately, at that time I didn’t know Russian well, and even less the Yakut language, so I didn’t dare to take his name or somehow get inspired, since I don’t understand what it means. But this name simply stuck in my head as if carved in stone, and more than ten years later I still remember it. 0 Share this post Link to post

Melodic Spaceship Posted September 9 The name "Melodic Spaceship" was originally created when I started my YouTube channel. The alias I was using in the Commander Keen community beforehand (TheBigV) was already taken on YouTube so this name was chosen to reflect my interest in music and space-themed video games and because it wasn't used by anyone else. Since then, I've taken to using this alias everywhere outside the Commander Keen community (including here, of course). 1 Share this post Link to post
tewgytaylor Posted September 9 So whenever I play a Zelda game I just smash random syllables together until I get something that sounds funny, and one time I came up with Tewgy. I thought it'd be funny if I put Tewgy next to a normal name like Taylor. That's basically it. 0 Share this post Link to post
UserPlayer89 Posted September 9 needed a name online somewhere very long ago and I just stuck with it elsewhere 0 Share this post Link to post
Plerb Posted September 9 "Plerb" doesn't mean anything, I wanted to use a fun-sounding nonsense word for a username and it's what I came up with. I was inches away from using "Plerp". Before, I would use variations of the name "pandaling" which my mom came up for me when I was like 3, notably "Pandakeen" for commander keen related websites, but I got kinda tired of that name and I like Plerb a lot more. 2 Share this post Link to post

vanilla_d00m Posted September 9 Thanks for the replies guys. I’m not good at making names.. but since I’m against brutal doom (animated monster kills etc) I made this and sorry if it doesn’t sound original. 0 Share this post Link to post

SirPootis Posted September 9 (edited) This word was very prevalent in me and my friends' humor and lingo throughout most of my late childhood. In a different note, it's funny to see who knew TF2 and who didn't when meeting people in Discord or other voice chats by the way they pronounced 'Pootis' in my username. A majority of people opted for 'Poo-tiss' or 'Poo-tus' but the few who knew TF2 immediately pronounced it the same way Heavy did :P 0 Share this post Link to post

HeatedChocolate Posted September 9 My accounts have been called "HeatedChocolate" for as long as I can remember, in no rush to change it either. Suppose "Dean" or some derivative would be a good choice considering that be the name of the dingus rattlesnake I like to portray myself as, but that's probably not gonna happen anytime soon. 0 Share this post Link to post
aRottenKomquat Posted September 9 (edited) In a high school physics class, the teacher walked us through a thought experiment that illustrated the concept of conservation of momentum by imagining exploding a firecracker inside a rotten kumquat. That just happened to be the day I finally signed up for XBox Live, and every name I tried was taken until I used aRottenKomquat with the word "kumquat" slightly mispelled. It's been my "gamer" name ever since. 0 Share this post Link to post
