Hey there. Just wanted to say that even if I like the idea of keeping things simple and not having custom textures, I thought it would be very nice to have some textures based on the pictures here, even if it's just for something more special, like the final map. Or perhaps a secret map set in a gallery with the glasses? I don't know. Anyway, I wouldn't mind helping to make the textures (if help is needed)

 

Oh yes, and I think I already have a clearer idea of what I'll do in my map for this :).

Amazing idea. This one reminds me a lot of the one in administration center.

I think these should be touched up to look the best they can look. A friend of mine, @SpaceCat_2001 has also worked on cleaning up some of the old TNT textures, maybe he can help too!

Sure, you could call it an artificial cap, but my fear is that someone will try to out-magnum-opus everyone else and make an Abandon map, essentially, so we're keeping monster counts in the three-digit range.

Commenting here so I can be reminded later, I might be interested in mapping for this. I can't immediately contribute as I'm currently working on maps for [REDACTED] but afterwards, I might be able to whip something up if I get inspiration. The concept is pretty unique and I like it. Even if I disliked 2 of his 3 maps, it's still tragic that he's no longer on this mortal coil with us.

 

Edited to state appreciation for the generously lengthy project gestation period since I'm in projects and also want to avoid burnout at the same time

We can explore this idea later in the development process - I like the idea of including some of his glasswork in a credits map, but I'd like to think about it more. My current position is that I would rather this project not presume to know Drake personally, but engage only with his Doom work.

I have struggled with making maps over the past couple of months, but a project aim like this leaves me tempted to make something during October (1 large map should be doable in a month). So yeah I will try to contribute something.

Gotta love when I come up with the idea for a brilliant setpiece I could use, but then I realise it needs Boom features to work properly. Oh well.

 

Regardless, consider myself tentatively interested (if 32 slots haven't been claimed already, of course, I've lost track of how many claimants there's been so far) - though if I don't have anything to show a couple weeks from now feel free to open up my slot again if we're claiming slots. I want to get a good idea pinned down before I start laying down lines, and the ideas machine in my skull isn't exactly the most consistent thing on the planet.

 

EDIT: Correction, no claims going on, but the point remains - I might try my hand at making something for this.

A lot of community projects have people claim map slots. But that should only be done if there's a specific reason, for example that the concept is tied to map slots (like "in Name Only" wads) or progression is planned around map slots (like Ray Mohawk 2 introducing its custom weapons at specific levels). If there's no specific reason, it's generally a disadvantage for reasons Xaser posts about here. Even when a project has designated thematic episodes people need to use, people don't really need to claim specific slots within an episode. 

 

90%+ of the time I've seen a project post a list of map slots and people who have claimed one, there's no real point in doing it that way. That a lot of people have come to assume "community project = map slot claiming" is something that can be corrected. :) 

 

Anyway, interested depending on how my energy/inspiration goes.

I am interested, depending on how much time I have when I'm done with my own projects. I do really enjoy Central Processing and it definitely inspired my early maps.

I have no idea if I can come up with something before getting bored a fifth of the way through....but you know what, it's fine. If I can make something, expect texture themes to shift a lot though, for no reason than to stave off such boredom. The smoothness of said switching can just be worked out later if it might be necessary (though probably not too much given the inspiration gets a little bit, well, crazy).

I'm interested. As weird as it sounds I've always loved the later third of Evilution because of Drake O'Brien's maps. MAP 21 alongside 27 being my favorite maps of that mapset.

I am a busy bunny these days, and will be for a while, and don't know if I'll have time to contribute something--but I'll try.  I've rambled and gushed enough times about how much Drake's work influenced my own from the early days.  Either way, thank you for doing this.

I hope no one is discouraged by the turnout. If you submit a map before 5/1/25, you are still in contention. No matter how many submissions I receive in the months leading up to the deadline, I will play and consider all of them before narrowing the field down to 32. 

 

I can see there being a "Lost Episode(s)" extension to this... for maps beyond the 32 if it gets there.

 

Edit: I'm seeing further down the replies that this is unlikely.

Just when I thought I was out of the "big map" business, along comes this project. "I tried to get out, but they pulled me back in." ;D

 

This sounds like a delicious project, and luckily there's plenty of time to get it done. And if my submission is rejected, no biggie, I'll use it somewhere else. No map goes to waste! :)
