id/ea Posted September 19 Title is self explanatory. For me, it was when myhouse.wad released, and when I went to the forum post about it. Only decided to make my account recently because i've been into Doom more ever since the Doom + Doom II update released for Steam, and social media like Twitter has been... Y'know, a dumpster fire in recent times. 2 Share this post Link to post
Murdoch Posted September 19 While I took a big break, I was around since day one. I followed the early Doom news sites of the mid-late 90s, and they of course mentioned the site's creation. 5 Share this post Link to post

Grazza Posted September 19 I think it was via the old TAS site. I'd drifted away from Doom a bit in 1998/9, and was wondering what new speedrunning records had been set while I hadn't been paying attention. The TAS site was hosted on Doomworld (actually it still is), so at some point I must have looked at the parent site. Mid-1999, presumably. 4 Share this post Link to post
Jayextee Posted September 19 It was in the year 2000 or thereabouts, I think? I'd been tinkering with DOOM mapping thanks to a copy of WadEd that someone showed me since the mid-late part of 1999 (even saw in the 1999-2000 new year playing DOOM!) but it was in 2000 that I got curious as to what this still-active community was doing; my registration date (Oct 11, 2000) does predate one of the first WADs I can remember seeing the release of in these forums (Tunnel Run, by Russell DD Pearson for what it's worth) and I do remember lurking for some months before finally signing up. So I'd guess roughly mid-2000. 4 Share this post Link to post
Captain red pants Posted September 19 I stumbled across Doomworld back in 2000 when I first started to learn about Doom source ports. I thought they where the coolest thing ever. Still do :) 2 Share this post Link to post
holaareola Posted September 19 Early 2000s I think, under one or two other user names. Used to be on Newdoom more back then, as I remember Doomworld and the IRC channels the regulars hung out on being snarky and really not suffering fools gladly (and I was certainly in full flush of foolishness at 15). Strikes me as funny at this point, because Doomworld now seems positively genteel compared to the rest of the internet, although I guess DW itself has changed as everyone has got older. I like it here. 3 Share this post Link to post
Zerofuchs Posted September 19 Probably somewhere in the mid/late 00s? Somewhere around the time I discovered there were better ways to play Doom on Windows than DOSBox chugging at 10FPS and Doom95... I only started particularly paying attention to it probably after I started watching Civvie's stuff and met a few of the DW semi-regulars on his Discord server. And then it took a few more years before I decided to stop lurking and here I am now. 0 Share this post Link to post
Milkeno Posted September 19 (edited) I don't remember exactly, but I likely picked it up from some Doom Builder or Slade tutorial. I generally knew about it from random youtube chatter about it and I do remember clicking on a Doomworld link after watching a tutorial maybe a week before I joined up, but I don't remember any specific thing. bsharp Posted September 19 came for the myhouse, stayed for the rest of the cool shit 0 Share this post Link to post
vanilla_d00m Posted September 19 (edited) I found it by mistake in 2008 or 2009 i dont remember. I was looking at DOOM stuff online, I was also online playing ZDaemon. I didn't think much of it.. untill I heard E1M1 in OPL sound chip. Made a username here in 2019.. finally beat the DOOM commercial wads then played SIGIL. Been giving thanks to doomworld ever since because of this. If it where not for doomworld, I would have not discovered SIGIL 1 and the midi soundtrack I really like. 0 Share this post Link to post
Uncle 80 Posted September 19 Found it in '98 while searching for more TNT goodness after getting awestruck by Eternal Doom. Visited the forums irregularly until finally registering in 2002. Lost login possibility when I dropped out of uni, then re-registered 2 years later. It was the Alien Vendetta dev threads that made me start following DW threads regularly. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mr Masker Posted September 19 (edited) For a while I just went on here to download wads when I saw them, just sort by most viewed and go from there. After a while of lurking I started actually participating, and here I am now. Then I started making maps, then I quickly stopped making maps. My next Doom Map is releasing... never probably lmao 0 Share this post Link to post
TheShep Posted September 19 Clearly sometime in the early 2000s as evidenced by my register date. Been doing internet stuff since I first got a computer in 92. Got the Collector's Edition of Doom at Walmart in 2003. Played Doom off and on since high school, a bit in college, and picked it up a lot here in recent years. It's been good. 5 Share this post Link to post
Misty Posted September 19 I can't remember, I was still too young and barely understood english back then. Registered properly around Doom 2016 hype and release. 1 Share this post Link to post
DiavoJinx Posted September 19 Early 2000s I think. Maybe y2k even. Stopped editing Doom for 15+ years... then redisocvered Doomworld about a year ago and very happy to find this great site still operating classically! So refreshing to have classic forums instead of Reddit or a public Discord channel for a topic of interest. 1 Share this post Link to post
Burgish Posted September 19 Just a few years ago. I just picked up DoomII again kind of randomly, and discovered Plutonia thanks to a certain YT channel, which led me to Sunder. Sunder was like a religious experience. I played it nonstop for months, slugging away for hours - sometimes days - just to get past one room/fight. It gave me that Dark Souls feel. I was drunk on slaughtermaps. Eventually that made me consider making my own stuff, and between Doomworld, ZDoom wiki, and the action function tooltips in Slade, I was able to get a couple things done. I'm pretty much just here for the sprite editing, custom monsters/weapons, gameplay modding etc... and I never get tired of seeing what other people come up with. 0 Share this post Link to post
Lizardcommando Posted September 19 (edited) Back in mid 2001, I was looking for more wads to play and I stumbled upon Doomworld. I didn't sign up until later that same year. I didn't even realize it was 2 days after Doom's birthday when I officially signed up lol. 1 Share this post Link to post
DJVCardMaster Posted September 19 2009, as soon as I started playing Doom by myself (As soon as I had internet in my house). But I never created an account after some years. 0 Share this post Link to post
Coopersville Posted September 19 Like 1999? I had already seen websites like NintendoWorld before, so I just typed doomworld.com into the address bar to see what would come up. 0 Share this post Link to post
Tembry-Glintstone Posted September 19 When i started lurking on the doomworld, it was when i got really really interested in multiplayer doom around 2006 or so. i was an avid zdaemon and skulltag/zandronum player back in the day, but fell off when my PC died on me. I miss those days. 0 Share this post Link to post
SilentD00mer Posted September 19 I can't remember the year, maybe something like 2013, but I didn't join until 2021. 0 Share this post Link to post
Stupid Bunny Posted September 19 Me 17 years ago: https://www.doomworld.com/forum/post/691760 Quote There are a bunch that I like, as well as lots that I haven't played, but my favorites so far are Equinox, Scythe II, and Phobos. I also like The Sky May Be although it's rather annoying to play. and my answers now are almost exactly the same lol I don't remember exactly how much daylight there was between finding this place and actually posting here--my first contribution was a thread asking how to make buildings right. I got my feet wet with custom WADs given me by a friend and also that I found online, though I started mapping before playing any custom WADs. I think I was already active on the Public Commander Keen Forum well before this and so it was a logical step to take once I got into Doom and stepped into mapping for it. For some reason my first two maps, released in 2008 and 2010, never got their own threads because I guess I thought it was presumptuous to do that? 2 Share this post Link to post
Redneckerz Posted September 19 Since 2019 here, but i recall Doomworld from all the way back in 2001/2002. So i guess i am actually an old fart, but not quite. 0 Share this post Link to post
Robo_Cola Posted September 19 I believe I was looking up stuff about Doom 3 right around when it originally came out, so about 2004-05 I distinctly remember landing on this site (and PlanetDoom) and would visit occasionally. Sometime around 08-10 I also remember registering an account, and would only use it maybe a handful of times. No idea what I called it though. 0 Share this post Link to post
joepallai Posted September 19 spring of '98 I want to say (it was early) 1 Share this post Link to post
LadyMistDragon Posted September 19 (edited) I first spotted the link on Laz Rojaz's site around 2003 but forums intimidated the hell out of me and it kind of seemed unnecessary. It wasn't until the middle of 2007 that I looked into it but upon seeing the stupid "search before you post anything" intro message, I followed through but made zero attempt at posting. It should be noted I had no idea how to play wads at the time but ZDoom was more convenient to me than the command line bs I didn't understand. Like I literally had no clue click and drag was a thing with that port. 0 Share this post Link to post
