I am afraid that from now on, when next time I reboot the machine, the explorer will keep crashing and everything else will be out of order.

Possible problems:

- Overheating. Check your fans to make sure they are all working and or not clogged up with dust. Check all your internal connections and make sure all expansion cards are seated properly while you're at it.

- Corrupt system files. Run scandisk and defrag. If that doesn't solve the problem, try re-installing or restoring your operating system.

- You may have a virus. Run a virus scan.

Here's some info about my comp spec:

Win98
Compaq Presario 7360
AMD-k6(tm)
6gb of disk space
56mb of ram
500mhz

btw, this error doesn't only happen to mplayer2, it happens to all applications from time to time. For now it stopped, but I cannot predict what might happen if I restart the machine. Also, I saw the screen where Windows started saying that "this machine has been over 40 months old, viruses may occur" or something like that. So I assume that must be problem that the hardware is outdated. Well, what is the best solution to it now?

sounds like hardware problems. clean it out, reseat everything and check system settings

also i usally do an entire system restore every year, so do that.

Damn, this sounds like my comp, everything except for the Compaq part.

Never rule out the possibility of a virus, though.

I had a virus recently which formatted my hard drive, but what sucks is that it got past Norton... it started by locking up the comp every five minutes, and then I got the "blue screen of death" for doing simple things like just bringing up the start menu. Then it just kinda... died. But fortunately it didn't attach itself to the boot partition or anything, because the hard drive I replaced it with, though only 2GB, is working fine...

Direct X, try newer v9.1
or If the virtual memory becomes unstable due to a shortage of physical memory (RAM)
If the virtual memory becomes unstable due to a shortage of free disk space
If the virtual memory area is damaged by a program
If a program attempts to access data that is being modified by another running program
Also make sure you ain't got comet cursor running, pos.

wtf??? 500 mhz with less than 64 megs of ram??? no no no!!! get some more man!!

yeah, then go to a newer version of winblows. it usually solves most of the crashing.
