AndrewB Posted May 21, 2003 Really, my first video card "upgrade" since getting a Voodoo3 2000 16MB back in August 2000. Here's what John Carmack had to say about it. Video, 10.7MB. With taxes and shipping, came to $205 Canadian ($150 American), and is expected in 7-10 business days. Nice, something to look forward to. 0 Share this post Link to post
Lord FlatHead Posted May 21, 2003 Cool. Carmack's voice sounds a lot more human than it usually does. 0 Share this post Link to post

AndrewB Posted May 21, 2003 We have a pellet gun. Somehow I doubt it would effectively puncture a hard, round bone structure. 0 Share this post Link to post

mewse Posted May 21, 2003 are you upgrading your laptop or something? or did you buy an AGP version? i dont get it 0 Share this post Link to post
IMJack Posted May 21, 2003 http://www.hqmc.usmc.mil/factfile.nsf/0/f0b7e4939a6df0a08525627b007382e1/$FILE/M9PISTOL.JPG Heh. I need a new video card, 'cuz the GeForce2 I had doesn't like my new nForce motherboard for some reason. It will run basic VGA gaphics, but if I try to install any drivers for the card, the thing craps out. Thank goodness my old TNT2 works with it. 0 Share this post Link to post
auxois Posted May 21, 2003 You were foolish enough to buy an nForce2 without integrated video when you only had a Geforce 2? 0 Share this post Link to post

david_a Posted May 21, 2003 The advertised name of the M9 is the Radeon Mobility 9000. It's basically just a crippled 8500 turned into a mobile chip. 0 Share this post Link to post

Alientank Posted May 22, 2003 With a gun you could have stolen your m9 card. 0 Share this post Link to post

david_a Posted May 22, 2003 AndrewB said:It's just underclocked. It can safely be turned up quite a ways. Uh, no, quite the opposite. The card has half the vertex and texture units of the 8500. To make up for some of this, they upped the clock a little. For stuff like Quake3, it'll be just as fast as the 8500, but for Doom 3 it'll be half the speed. 0 Share this post Link to post

AndrewB Posted June 17, 2003 Update: Received it and installed it today. I have one major problem and one minor problem. Major: Non-native resolutions are blocky and blurry with the M9. It's supposed to be better than the M7 in non-native, yet it's worse. Much, much worse. Minor: It's a bugger getting the drivers to install properly. They install manually, but not with the ATI Control Panel. This means I can't change OpenGL, Direct3D, or other desirable settings. But on the bright side, it would have cost a lot more to configure my desktop to be Doom-3 optimized. 0 Share this post Link to post
