zabnat Posted June 12, 2003 Everybody knows those 3 big faces in marble textures right? MARBFACE, MARBFAC2 and MARBFAC3. The question is, who are they? My friend claims that there is a cyberdemon in those but I think that they are: MARBFACE - End boss from doom2, just some evil ramskull MARBFAC2 - Archvile MARBFAC3 - Baron of Hell Do you agree or not, let me know? 0 Share this post Link to post

SmellyOgre Posted June 12, 2003 OOPS!!! I think i was looking at the wrong thing, i see what your talking about. I agree they are. *SLAPS SELF ON FOREHEAD* 0 Share this post Link to post
m0l0t0v Posted June 12, 2003 The MARBFACE also appears in DoomI and represents the 'goat of lust'. I'm sure there are people on DW with more knowlegde of satanism and the occult than me, who could give a detailed discription... The End Boss in DoomII was most likely modeled after this same symbol. The MARBFAC2 appeared in DoomI, (probably) before the Archvile was ever invented. It's just cool looking monster if you ask me... It could also represent the chaingunner's face (though he wasn't invented either at the time) The MARBFAC3: Baron of Hell, obviously... 0 Share this post Link to post
The Flange Peddler Posted June 12, 2003 Yeah, those marbfaces can't be modelled after the icon or archvile as the marbfaces occured first... unless of course the archvile and icon are modelled after the marbfaces themselves? 0 Share this post Link to post
insertwackynamehere Posted June 12, 2003 Marbfac2 could be a lost soul with flame streaming behind it... 0 Share this post Link to post
Little Faith Posted June 12, 2003 I disagree M0l0t0v. The MARBFAC2 does look like the Arch-Vile. Right down to the four small tubes connecting the cheeks with the jaw. I guess Adrian came up with the visual idea of the Arch-Vile while looking at this. 0 Share this post Link to post
The Flange Peddler Posted June 12, 2003 I always thought MARBFAC4 was just a smaller MARBGRAY version of the baron marbface. 0 Share this post Link to post
auxois Posted June 13, 2003 MARBFAC2 always reminded me of Cthulu. Maybe that's just me. Or maybe it's that I've been playing Eternal Darkness lately. Heh. 0 Share this post Link to post
CyRaptor Posted June 13, 2003 Romero said that MARBFAC2 isn't the Arch-Vile, but some demon-alien hybrid that never made it into the game otherwise. Or something to that effect. 0 Share this post Link to post
Grimm Posted June 14, 2003 It actually does look like a Lost Soul, only the way it was originally, with skin 'n' stuff. Me thinks of good monster idea. 0 Share this post Link to post

Kaiser Posted June 14, 2003 at first I always thought MARBFACE was the Cyberdemon and MARBFAC2 was the Spider Mastermind 0 Share this post Link to post
Insomniak Posted June 14, 2003 heh MARBFAC2, before the Archvile, always looked like the Spider Mastermind to me. The enlarged cranium, and the fact that it showed up a bunch in E3M8 and E4M8. the comparison picture later helped clairify this, but it's interesting to see that the Archvile was already in the works when Doom1 came out. EDIT: wow, beaten to my MARBFAC2 theory during the 3 minutes typing. 0 Share this post Link to post

Grimm Posted June 14, 2003 I think that the Archvile was based off of MARBFAC2. 0 Share this post Link to post
pritch Posted June 14, 2003 Too much similarity for it to be a coincidence I think. 0 Share this post Link to post
