Where are all the Maps $ Mods

Recommended Posts

I have basically been a NewDOOM Troll for the last 4 years, but am recently getting interested in checking out some more ZDOOM since it now has sloped surfaces and all that. Only problem is that I have no idea what so ever as to find all these maps I see reviewed and what not. Where do you goto?

Go here
I realize there are also Doom port levels, but the large majority are for Doom2 only.

NewDoom = complete shit
The only reason i ever go to the shitheap is to the hosted sites. Like 007doom.

NewDOOM has been great, as a Legacy fanatic and editor, I have found it more than useful for learning and sharing ideas. The people there have been really friendly and easy going, with a great sence of humor, if it was not for the narrow headed owner of the page, and his short temper and one sided opinions, I'd still be going there. It just seems that in the past few months he has really driven the site downhill. I prefer the company of people who, though they may not share the same opinions, or have the same personality, get along despite of it all.

Anyhow, back to the subject. I know where to find DOOM WADs, but more specifically I am looking for ZDOOM ones that feature some of its more prominent abilities.

This page has some kool ones, but no links that I can find, and DOOMWORLD always hosts small screen shots, but no links. I'd like to know what I am looking at and where to get it you know? :)

Baldy's page says:
Download 007: License To Spell Doom (6.3M) here. If this link doesn't work, email me.

right at the top.

And I'm sure you've seen the /newstuff chronicles, well that's a great place to see Zdoom wads.

What happens is that the links on the reviews here at DW take you to the idgames database page for that wad. On the right hand side of the page you'll see a list of download links going to various mirror sites - they all link to the wad.

The Doom Community Archive itself is an ftp site. It is located at ftp://archives.3dgamers.com/pub/idgames/. You can get wads by just browsing the directories, which are reasonably well organized. This ftp site is mirrored in various places; the main one is at ftp://3darchives.in-span.net/pub/idgames/, and it is best to use that rather than the master, since it is generally much easier to get access to the files.

Ling made a wonderful search tool for the archive. It is at http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/. That is probably the best way to find wads, since you can search the archive in various ways or browse the directory structure. It also lists the various mirror sites from which you can download wads, in case you have problems getting the file from the one you normally use.

The Doom Community Archive isn't the only place where wads can be found, but it is the largest and best organized. There is quite a lot of Doom stuff at http://www.giffer.com/public/dos/ (see "Games Starting With ..."). There is also a big library at http://www.filelibrary.com/Contents/DOS/104/3.html but that site seems to be down at the moment. Another site to look at if you can't find a particular wad is http://www.doomworld.com/sda/doom_sda.htm - if Opulent's site has demos on a wad, it will also contain information about where to get the wad.

EDIT: filelibrary is up again.

Eventually, I'm gonna get the old 'Doom Wad Yellow Pages' back up. That will help some.
