How do I connect to irc.freenode.net and go to #dw? I'm a n00b at IRC, so if someone could help me, thanks!

I'm still confused, once I'm logged on, no one seems to be chatting in #dw or #doom. Am I doing something wrong, or is everyone just sitting around?

From the command line:

/server irc.freenode.net

That'll connect you, then:

/join #dw

That'll get you in the channel.

You can use /nick to change your nickname, registration is a good idea, but heh, I don't think anybody visits #dw anymore.

it's irc.us.freenode.net, but yeah, go to irc.oftc.net #zdoom, since that's where we're headed.

irc.us.freenode.net would only connect you to a US server. irc.freenode.net connects you to a random worldwide server (and it mostly ends up in Europe for me, so I guess it picks the one with the lowest load in your area).

really? irc.freenode.net never works for me. i usually use niven.freenode.net myself though anyway, because that server is hosted by my school.
