What can you tell about a person...

Recommended Posts

I happened to be searching for a misplaced money order, and I checked my wallet. I looked through it and found a bunch of little things I had left in it over the past year or so, stuff I could clearly remember but had forgot about.

I was wondering if any of you have ever found a stranger's wallet lying around, picked it up to check for ID (or to steal the money, you filthy bastards :P), and happened to look through it. What could you tell about that person? What was the oddest item, or what did you find that told you the most about that person, made them seem human, not just somebody who happened to be the owner of a misplaced wallet?

My wallet: Black leather, beat up.

  • $18 - two fives, eight ones.
  • Military ID (I am a dependent, living on a military installation)
  • Social security card
  • Old medical insurance card or something
  • Arizona driver's license - photo shows me looking a little tired, but the lighting made my skin look all like, marble smooth and really fair. Was having a great hair-minute (not day).
  • A fortune slip (from a fortune cookie). Reads: "You deserve to have some fun after a hard day of work."
  • A ticket receipt for Minority Report.
  • Unused old "Lover's Lotto" card (one of those action/body part scratch-off things). A friend gave it to me as kind of a joke, but somebody finding my wallet wouldn't know that I suppose.
  • A black & white photograph of a pair of combat boots. They're mine, but I suppose that's another thing a stranger wouldn't know.
  • A black & white photograph of me all black-clad and wearing my old beat up comfy shiny black PVC jacket, leaning against a rail on some bleachers with my head looking down and to the side for nice teengothy dramatic effect.
  • Folded up sheet of paper, writing mostly faded out, phone numbers of friends from way back that I haven't talked to in a long time mostly.
Don't tell me this should be a blog. It's here because it's asking for feedback.

My wallet: I don't use one (nor do I have one.)

I put my stuff in my pockets or in my suitcase. I'll leave the details for another thread unless someone insists otherwise (and I feel moved.)

I never use a wallet as such either, and I've never found anyone else's lying around.

You wouldn't find much of interest in the small credit card wallet that I use, besides a donor card and some store cards that expired years ago.

[mod]Oh, and will people stop getting paranoid about posts being blogged? If it invites discussion and it's not junk, it's OK in EE.[/mod]

In my wallet (black leather):
-Bank of Montreal card
-University ID (does ID, door locks, vending machines, copiers...)
-discount cards for fast food
-Pepsi card
-CNIB card (Canadian National Institute for the Blind -- definitely the most telling thing in my wallet since you have to be legally blind to have one)
-Social Inurance card (for that stupid 9 digig number of course)
-Alberta Healthcare card (again for the number -- feel the spectre of free Canadian healthcare, hehehe)
-pic of my friend Allan
-old recipts
-iRewards card for Chapters

Jeans pockets:
-keychain with remains of a laser pointer, remains of a pocket Mag Lite, and one of those rubber noses with green boogers, turned blue from an exploded pen
-change (about 80 cents Canadian)

Not much else, although I've been known to carry weird things around in my pockets from time to time, like telephone relays and such.

Originally I was going to post: "Something isn't making sense here."

Then, suddenly, I wasn't completely stupid and I remembered that "legally blind" doesn't mean completely blind, just a legal standard used to determine at what point somebody can't drive anymore and stuff like that or when they are ellegible for certain legal stuff or whatever. I are dumb.

Funny how there always seems to be an episode of Seinfeld that applies to common things that happen to people.
