999cop Posted July 2, 2005 Where'd you people learn to play guitar or any other instruments? Share your experiences about your learning process. 0 Share this post Link to post
amberleaf Posted July 2, 2005 I learnt to play by starting on acoustic. Learn to read guitar tab ( 1 hour to get basics down) buy a good guitar mag (guitar world in US or total guitar in europe) dont buy tons of gear , it doesnt make u better!!! Enjoy learning, without fun u will soon give up. I started with greenday and weezer stuff and moved on to metallica.. I found it pretty easy to get to a resonable level....although i will never be brilliant cos I dont work hard enough. 0 Share this post Link to post

Ralphis Posted July 3, 2005 I have a casio midi keyboard, 4 trombones varying from good to not so good, trumpet, had a drumset but gave it away, my computer itself is an instrument, and that's about it. I like my trombone ;] 0 Share this post Link to post
KoolKat Posted July 5, 2005 Eh, well I knew for several years before that I had a driving passion to learn how to play guitar. I'm not very good at it yet, but I do enjoy practice and I am getting better. I started off with the book that I got with my Squier, plus the tabs on Ultimate Guitar. Picked up some other tabs here and there and made a couple of my own... Now I'm in an experimental stage, messing with chords. :) 0 Share this post Link to post

kristus Posted July 10, 2005 I don't play guitar, I DO have two bass guitars however. Dean edge-one (electric) Dimebags brand of choice. :p Landola Acoustic with a soundbox. To boost those two babies I use a Riley amp. http://darch-angel.com/images/mybabies.gif I've been playing for about 4-5 years, but never really been in any band. EDIT: before the Dean i had a Washburn 204 (iirc, they don't carry them anymore anyway) I loved that bass. It got stolen. 0 Share this post Link to post

kristus Posted July 10, 2005 Well, Rock, Punk, classical whatever I feel like. :p Punk is rather boring since it's usually just about strumming. So not so much of that. Since I never played with any band really, I tend to forget about practicing. Occationally I get motivated and reharse in a couple of songs though. 0 Share this post Link to post

Kochipahk Posted July 21, 2005 Actually, I do have a super-old crappy acoustic guitar that has a combonation of like nylon and steel, red, black and silver strings. Wait, nevermind, they're only silver and black. 0 Share this post Link to post

Iv'e heard a lot of jazz/metal fusion, but nothing like Malmsteen and Godflesh. I listen to Fragging Fanatical pretty regularly myself. 0 Share this post Link to post
Epyo Posted July 22, 2005 Deary me this is an old thread. My sister majors in flute in college (senior this year!) so now she has to take ritalin daily. One of my brothers plays lead guitar and vocals in his band, which is rather popular in the area (well everyone at our school has heard of them anyway). They practice in the basement three times a week, owch. My older older brother plays guitar a crapload in his spare time (always) and my dad has been playing guitar for some 250+ years and now likes to record his own cover songs, instrument by instrument, to play for relatives and friends on CD. My mom likes to play on our ancient piano almost daily, god I hate pianos. So...no. 0 Share this post Link to post

But I also kind of like doing it for free, for the love of music as it were. Granted if I got paid to do it, that would be a lot better, and would allow me to do more since I could do it for a living. All the stuff I've done over the years (now 230+ songs) have all been done between 60+ hours of my day job, night jobs, house work, gaming projects, etc. So with all the stuff out of the way, I could do a lot more. 0 Share this post Link to post
