I've seen several people use this as their avatar on message boards, even on general-audience sites with community standards. I'm wondering, what's the history behind this image (is it some sort of famous photoshop?), what is the whole "OWNED!" thing about, and most importantly...

Good grief. As funny as it looks i hope it isn't real (it's computer graphics though, as far as i can make out. The angle that the women kicks the baby at is in such a way that the baby wouldn't go flying like that in RL).

As for the "owned" thing, it might have begun in Quake's Team Fortress or Capture the Flag. From what I remember, when one team overran the other team's base to the point where they could just walk around the entire base and capture the flag at will, it was said that they "own" the base.

Heh. Reminds me of the time in TFC on Well when me and a couple other people were playing spies and we all decided to do the whole 'hey look I'm a defender' ploy in their base. Funny thing was, whenever one of them came into the flag room where we were 'defending' they were like 'oh, looks like everything is okay in here' and leave. In the meantime, me and the other guys were taking turns grabbing the flag and running back to base. As soon as it respawned, the next guy would take it.

And they never caught on.

Back when that concussion grenade jump from the water in 2fort4 trick was new (someone in my old clan thought it up and showed the rest of us, but I was the only one who actually used it), I was able to get right into their base, grab their flag, and return to my base in under a minute. With no one expecting a medic to be able to get to their upper deck or blow themselves up the elevator shaft, they had no idea how their flag kept mysteriously wandering off until the map was almost finished.

Another fun trick (although much more dangerous) was to hold a primed grenade and use it to blast your way up to the upper floor from the entrance in rock1 and rock2. I'd prime my grenade, walk up to the proper spot, and stop right before it explodes. Naturally, I'm low on health by then, so I'd just refil myself in that one respawn area. I was able to cause all sorts of chaos like this as a spy or demoman.
