Mordeth, your email fails it.

Recommended Posts

I (again) sent an email to mordeth at doomworld dot com with a subject starting with "[doom]" but apparently you havent received it again. I cannot PM you because you have it disabled, so PM me with an alternative email address please!

Heh, that line might work as a decoy. Let's hope the scent of it is strong enough :P

The whole reason this thread exists is because his private messages are disabled.

Hey Mordeth, I finally know where you got your username from.

The Wheel of Time
Book 1
The Eye of the World
Chapter 19 - Shadows Waiting

Heh, I was reading it last night and I encountered that little part in the book and I was like, "Holy crap! Funny how names I've seen before pop up in books I'm reading, heh..." I know this might be a useless post, but heh just wanted to get the message across.

Yeah, I was (am) totally into the Wheel of Time. So when I had to pick a name for the project I used those books as a reference. Originally I looked for the name of a really sinister place, like Shadar Logoth, but it had to be something with at most 8 characters (heh, those silly DOS restrictions). So I ended up with Mordeth... a dark malevolent spirit bound to the haunted ruins of the city he delivered to a fate worse than death ("more than death dwells there"). Which suited the TC, but was still general enough not to be linked directly to WoT. When I finally got on irc some two years later I adopted the project's name.

I wonder how much of that spam was a result of angry forum users signing your address up to all sorts of sites (porn, warez, online shopping and gambling, etc.).

Don't you give our marvellous users ideas!

I'm thinking of making the mordeth addy a forwarding account to my ISP-email account. Currently it's the other way around. My ISP has recently installed free spamfilters server-side, so that would filter out the bulk of the garbage I would get via a forwarding TF. Stupid TF ought to do the same, considering they already got a spamassassin report for each email... why not go one step further to kill off the crap?

I suspect that has indeed happened on more than one occasion. Not that I actually noticed. Until recently getting rid of spam serverside was fairly easy, but TF turned off the "spam" designation in the topic space. Plus I used to read my mail a LOT more often than I do now :)

There were also a few blockheads who tried to spamflood Doomworld with a 10-40K file every ten minutes. All fun and games, until I contacted their ISPs to shutdown their accounts. I thought I'd mention that, in case people get funny ideas.

That's weird, I get very little spam. I used to get some ones marked by spamassassin and some that aren't, but now I don't get any ones that are marked. I still get the occasional one not detected by spamassassin.

I feel like reviving a dead topic today.

Well, not entirely dead... Mordeth? Please? Pretty please?

Since most of us will probably skip threads that do _not_ outline in the mass,
following is wise:

In a forum, thread titles are *usually* written in small case (with some cap
letters to indicate start of a sentence, or such), you can highlight your
thread by doing the opposite, i.e. writing caps. This might not work if all
your spam mails and complaints have upper case text, so I'd go with a blank
subject line then ;) which has the most impact on the reader's eye against text
of text.
